Add a clear pocket on the back seam of the notebook to insert the subject name and this notebook will be perfect. My son is a rugged 12 year old. The easy open rings mean he won't break them tugging. The side inserts allow him to pocket his homework. The construction is light weight but it takes the falls and jamming into his backpack. Stickers adhere and remove easily.

D-ring closure is precise, with a plastic coated tab closure, and not the "mousetrap" of older binders.
Unlike the larger 1 1/2" version, there is NO clear vinyl slipcover, which makes it harder to label and more prone to tearing.
Inner pocket is thin and easily torn/punctured.
