Tried to trade off w/inferior product

I purchased an HP Photosmart Premium Touchsmart Web c309n printer, with the 3 year extended warranty plan. This was a pricey printer, and I didn't want to replace it any time soon. Only 15 months after purchase, it stopped working. Nothing the tech. support people suggested helped. They said they'd replace it with a refurbished model that was similar (not identical), and only give a 90 day warranty on the replacement. I told them if I paid for a 3 year extended warranty, I should be given a new printer that would be guaranteed to work for the remainder of the warranty period (another 2 years and 9 months). I also told them I wanted an identical model of printer to the one I'd purchased (or the most recent upgrade from that model, if it wasn't manufactured anymore). They wouldn't agree, so I asked for a cash settlement. They were supposed to refund the FULL purchase price. Instead, they gave me a discounted amount, far below the replacement cost for a new one. When I told Staples staff, they said I should get the FULL amount, but they couldn't do anything about it.

Coverage for a black and white Laser Printer. The best feature of 2 year coverage is if anything needs fixing you can just return it where you bought it. If you rely on manufacture's 1 year warranty, if anything goes wrong, it will cost you more to ship it, or take it to a repair center than the cost of the 2 year insurance. And, if you have the insurance, usually nothing happens. But, if you don't...
