This backup works great until the battery goes. At that time you have to weigh the cost of the battery vs a new machine.

As a IT Professional I know about power protection - all of my PCs and families' are on APC UPSs. The only thing you need to understand is that these really only last a few years at best, then you need to buy a new one - NOT replace the battery will will die based on how many power failures you have. Also realize that APC makes special deals when the units are aging in the warehouse so they may be 7 months - 1 year old when they sold at a discount. No big deal, just register it when when you get home for easy warranty service and any recalls. APC is a very good company that backs up their products and has great support, so getting a deal is OK when you are buying APC. For myself, I use this model for small 120W LCD TVs.

This product is suppose to back up the comuter should the power go out. While this has not happened yet my son did turn off the computer while something was not saved and the battery back up daved it
