Works as designed, which is to provide power strip protection and battery backup to allow time to shut down computers. One very bad thing is that the AC Plugs on it are poorly designed, causing unreliable connection to AC equipment, including computers. Twice, my computer has experienced sudden power loss due to unreliable plug-in, exactly the thing the UPS is supposed to prevent! Please fix this! The previous model had no problems in this regard. -User Dennis

          As a IT Professional I know about power protection - all of my PCs and families' are on APC UPSs. The only thing you need to understand is that these really only last a few years at best, then you need to buy a new one - NOT replace the battery will will die based on how many power failures you have. Also realize that APC makes special deals when the units are aging in the warehouse so they may be 7 months - 1 year old when they sold at a discount. No big deal, just register it when when you get home for easy warranty service and any recalls. APC is a very good company that backs up their products and has great support, so getting a deal is OK when you are buying APC. For myself, I use this model for small 120W LCD TVs.

                I purchased this UPS for my DSL modem/wireless router setup. The unit is perfect for this role, as long as you don't overload it with equipment. It includes surge protection for phone/DSL lines. No cable surge protection, however. The only quibble I have is that I wish the plug wasn't angled to the right, it becomes a little tricky to route the cord as I have the UPS positioned to the left of the wall outlet. Maybe a rotating plug would be a good feature on a future model.

                I've used APC products for 15+ years now. 7 in use in my home today. I've never had a problem any of them. When the power goes out, my high speed internet continues to work, all computers, routers and switches work and my phones work. I may put one on my furnace soon. I would like to see APC, through Staples (too expensive to ship), offer a cost effective method to replace batteries. Today, it is more effective to dispose of the unit and buy a new one.
