Q: How do you dispose of these units when they go bad? Are they recyclable? I would imagine they cannot just go in the trash. Asked on 2/29/2012 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: APC and Staples have teamed up to help you safely and responsibly recycle all of your Battery Backup solutions. It’s as easy as bringing your UPS or battery to any Staples US store and dropping it off at the customer service desk. There is a $10 recycling fee. Answered on 3/2/2012 by Cara B from Staples A: The manufacturer, APC, has several eco-friendly options for dealing with this units as they age. You can trade in the entire unit towards the cost of a new purchase, trade in just the batteries towards a replacement set, or take your old unit to your local Staples to be recycled. Q: I now have my PC, Monitor, USB hubs, printers etc. all plugged into one surge protector. Can I just plug this surge protector cord into the unit, plug the unit into wall, and have protection, or do I have to plug all above directly into the unit itself. I would like to be able to TOTALLY shut off power to all of the above when not using. We currently have these units in our office and I know they are ALWAYS on, even though PC etc are turned off. I only want short term protection during storms etc. so my PC doesn't shut down inapproprately when the electricity cuts off for a few minutes. So my questions is this: will it work if you just plug the surge protector with all equipment on it, into one receptacle in this unit??? Thanks Asked on 9/21/2011 by Carol from Ocean City, NJ Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Actually you can divide things up to use in two different surge protectors. But if you just leave everything plugged into your current plugged system you can plug that into this unit and when you turn your other system off this one will remain on along with whatever you have plugged into the remaining open plug slots. The best thing about doing it this way is if there is a dire emergency and you need to shut everything down real quickly you can just quickly shut this power unit down and everything is shut down. This prevents having to shut things down that you may not wish to have shut down. Answered on 9/24/2011 by Anonymous from None
Q: Is the battery a 12 volt, 9 AH? Asked on 6/28/2011 by davida425 from Dallas, TX Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: Yes, this product is a 12 volt, 9 AH battery. To place an order for this item, please contact us at 1-800-333-3330. Answered on 6/30/2011 by Liz C from Staples A: The BackUPS 550VA uses the APC battery RBC110, which I believe is a 12V 7.5Ah battery. As long as the dimensions are similar, you should be able to replace it with a 8Ah or 9Ah third-party battery -- just be sure the larger size will fit the relatively-tight battery compartment before buying.
