I would recommend this phone to any small business or home office needing more than 2 lines and an intercom feature between stations. The other models in the series (1080 with answering machine and 1040 without caller id) are a good value as well. The intercom feature is dependent on wiring. If you have a dsl splitter, ALL of the phones should be on the voice side of the splitter for intercom features to work.

The speakerphone works reasonably well. The menus are a bit awkward but adequate to get things working. The biggest down side is all the phones default to extension 11 when you plug them in to the phone line, so for best results connect the AC adapter and change the default extension before plugging in any of the phone lines.

I bought this phone and the speaker (microphone) does not work. I have since had 6 (SIX!!!) replacements from ATT and not one of them works. Not one. All have the same problem--I can hear fine through the speaker, but other people can't hear me. They send me phone after phone but none of them works. I would NEVER buy this phone again.

    We are a new small business and purchased the AT&T 974 phones when we started a year ago. Last week we purchased the newer version of the smame phone: 1070. Unfortunatly this phone is not compatable with our 974 phones. It does not transfer calls or intercom to our 974 phones, which is the feature we really needed. We are VERY disappointed with AT&T changing their models so fast without this important feature. I would not recommend this phone system if you ever want to add on phones in the future.

                    The speaker phone functions much worse than my old 10 years Panasonic. Caller cannot hear my voice from the built-in speaker/mic. I am going to buy another Panasonic speaker phone!

                    This phone (slave) works best the 1080 master. The 1040 does not give you the intercom feature. The intercom feature was key for us. It provides us with the flexibility between the office and the shop that we need to run the day to day business.
