This phone was bought for a small business office & is great in every way EXCEPT that the answering machine is not made to pick up if you are using this phone in any way - for example on the other line! This defeats the purpose of having the answering machine on the phone. I even called the 800# to clarify & they said that is correct. You can buy the 1070 & get all the other options & it is cheaper.

I would recommend this phone to any small business or home office needing more than 2 lines and an intercom feature between stations. The other models in the series (1070 without answering machine but with caller id and 1040 without answering machine and without caller id) are a good value as well. The intercom feature is dependent on wiring. If you have a dsl splitter, ALL of the phones should be on the voice side of the splitter for intercom features to work.

The speakerphone works reasonably well. The menus are a bit awkward but adequate to get things working. The biggest down side is all the phones default to extension 11 when you plug them in to the phone line, so for best results connect the AC adapter and change the default extension before plugging in any of the phone lines.

The answering machine was balky to set up. It is necessary to set 3 outgoing messages. There is an Auto Attendant Day message, an Auto Attendant Night message and a "Private" message. I wish you could shut off that complicated AA stuff and have only one mailbox with one message, but no, the AA menus are still there even if you aren't using any AA features. Still, the answering machine worked well for us in our 2 line setup. We will plan to add 2 more lines this week and will soon know how well this works as a 4 line phone.

Bought this phone for a small business. Never able to use the speaker due to the poor sound quality. Answering machine took too long to pick up if on the other line. Answering machine quick working after a year. Called AT&T and because it was past a year, they could not replace it. They were unable to fix the phone and said the phone was defective. Told us we would have to buy a new one. Phone was totally not worth the money.

Use phone in small business office. The mouthpiece is to small or you need to talk directly into it or the other party cannot hear you. Needs improvement.
