Just what I was looking for, a desk speaker phone with NO digital answering system because I didnt want it to interfer with the messaging system on our main phone. It does require batteries, but on the other hand you dont need a power cord / outlet.
One minor annoyance was that it ''thinks'' its the only phone in the house and you get a blinking light that stays on if you didnt answer the call from this phone. It wont go off unless you look at your incomming call history. I cured that by unselecting 'record call history' in the set up menu. Dont need it if you have a main phone answering machine.
Has a nice set up menu and the manual is very good. .. In short, Im happy, just what I wanted. Can still do computer work while having a speaker phone convo.

My CL2909 is being returned.

Every time the speakerphone is activated or the mute button is toggled, the phone makes an annoying beep that is heard by anyone else on the call. It was loud enough to result in complaints during my frequent conference calls. As a result, you cannot go on and off mute in order to multi-task.

Additionally, the speakerphone clips or cuts out when the other party is speaking softly, which results in results in a choppy conversation. Your only option to hear what is being said is to pick up the handset to kill the speakerphone.

If only it worked as good as it looks...

Comments about AT&T CL2909 Corded Telephone with Caller ID:

I have become very discouraged with the poor quality phones on the market. They don't last more than a year and break down easily. We purchased this phone at Staples months ago and loved the ease of use, great price and clarity of the speakerphone. Honestly, there are no negatives. We went back and purchased 3 more for our home and yesterday I purchased one for my office at work. An excellent quality phone for a very reasonable price.
