A decent Phone at a reasonable price

I would recommend this phone to any small business or home office needing more than 2 lines and an intercom feature between stations. The other models in the series (1070 without answering machine but with caller id and 1040 without answering machine and without caller id) are a good value as well. The intercom feature is dependent on wiring. If you have a dsl splitter, ALL of the phones should be on the voice side of the splitter for intercom features to work.

The speakerphone works reasonably well. The menus are a bit awkward but adequate to get things working. The biggest down side is all the phones default to extension 11 when you plug them in to the phone line, so for best results connect the AC adapter and change the default extension before plugging in any of the phone lines.

The answering machine was balky to set up. It is necessary to set 3 outgoing messages. There is an Auto Attendant Day message, an Auto Attendant Night message and a "Private" message. I wish you could shut off that complicated AA stuff and have only one mailbox with one message, but no, the AA menus are still there even if you aren't using any AA features. Still, the answering machine worked well for us in our 2 line setup. We will plan to add 2 more lines this week and will soon know how well this works as a 4 line phone.

This phone was bought for a small business office & is great in every way EXCEPT that the answering machine is not made to pick up if you are using this phone in any way - for example on the other line! This defeats the purpose of having the answering machine on the phone. I even called the 800# to clarify & they said that is correct. You can buy the 1070 & get all the other options & it is cheaper.

We only use it as a telephone and only using 2 lines. do not need the answering feature. We just needed a phone and it works ok.

Very Satisfied - Good product for the money - easy to set up. Pretty intuitive. Non-techie folks set it up so that is significant. My one complaint is I wish the message light/new call indicator was more intuitive - ex: it flashed if there was a msg and a constant illumination if just a call. Also, it will illuminate for a new call that I picked up on - I don't understand that logic. I have to first clear out that call to have the light go out.

I had difficulty getting this phone to work correctly because we started with one line for voice, fax and piggy backed DSL on the same line. We wanted to add a 2nd line for voice calls. We had to connect our line 1 to line 3 on the phone because of the DSL and the fax caused annoying clicking sounds on the line. Phone service provider isn't responsible for getting equipment set up right and AT&T could have been more helpful in working with us and Verizon to get the phones working correctly. We finally added a totally separate fax line to get rid of the clicking sounds and added a 2nd voice line on the AT&T phone system. We were trying to save money by not buying a phone system from a third party and trying to do this ourselves. In hindsight, I should have gone with a third party vendor who would have had the responsibility of getting everything to work correctly before we paid them. It took over 3 weeks and multiple calls to AT&T and visits from Verizon to get our system to work satisfactorily. I would not recommend setting this system up by yourself if you use a voice line for your fax line and/or piggy back DSL on your voice line.

We have 4 lines that roll over when the main line is busy. My husband and I work in the same office and use the same main phone number. I have the rollover line #4 referenced in my advertisement; however, all unattended calls get the same message. Can the phone accomodate a separate message for people who call line #4 as opposed to calling the main number? I work in securities and really need an industry specific message when I can't answer line #4.

  The AT&T 1080 system is very comparable to the 993 series. There are a few slight differences such as more lines, more memory for the caller ID, and more memory for internal contacts. The phone layout is almost exactly identical.

I'm trying to understand this. We currently have 4 separate phone numbers that "hunt" when the main number is busy. Do we need to keep the 4 numbers with this system? If we had just one phone number, and that line was busy with either an incoming or outgoing call, would we still be able to receive calls? Do all calls ring on all phones simultaneously?

  You would only need one phone number with this 4-Line phone system. If one line is busy, you can receive calls on the other 3 lines. This phone system is expandable up to 16 stations and is compatible with the AT&T 1040, 1070 and 1080. If you purchase an additonal phone, the calls will ring on all phones.
