Good features at a fair price

Laptop requires a wireless card software patch install (issued March 2013) that is available on the Acer website. The in store technical rep knew nothing about this but I learned about it on a different website stating don't waste your time trying to work around it. I installed this patch after initial boot up and have had zero problems to date with wireless connectivity. The speed of website refreshes is quite good when coupled with the touchscreen. This is my first Acer PC purchase and I am impressed with some of the features for the price like backlighted keyboard and DVD reader/writer. The laptop lid is somewhat difficult to open, but once opened, the keyboard feel is good; the touchpad has a so-so feel but with the touchscreen, you'll be using the screen most often anyway (which was very responsive and intuitive). The device is quiet and lightweight. In summary, a good overall buy for the $$

Major wireless problems

Acer is selling these computers with wrong wireless drivers so you get disconnected from the internet often. After dealing with this for 4 days, I returned the computer as I apparently had a bad wireless card. Acer support leaves a lot to be desired. Computer bad out of the box and they would pay for shipping but not send a box and I had to pay to have it boxed. I returned it to Staples and received wonderful service for the return.

Windows 8 takes getting used to but that is expected. I had to undue a lot of the auto presets, i.e. email and music player, that was and still is a little annoying, but there seems to be plenty of free 'how to' info available as well as books that can be purchased.

I bought the Acer Aspire computer for my daughter who was going off to college. This is a great buy and we were able to get a rebate as the promotion was to trade in and upgrade. My daughter had a 4 year old Lenovo laptop from HS and rather than having this collect dust in the house we took this deal. Beautiful and light weight laptop with touch screen was a great buy. One draw back was that the WIFI would drop off constantly and this was due to two things. You must have the Atheros drivers updated or reinstalled and I just found out that the windows 8 has a bug in it that also caused the WIFI to drop. In the end of June 2013 apparently 8.1 windows will be released and will solve the problem. Once this is fixed this will be a great laptop to have.

I have only had the computer for two weeks and there was definitely a learning curve, especially with Windows 8. However, I am getting the hang of things, and am extremely happy with the laptop. I find the internal mouse to be confusing to use, and sometimes it gets in the way of my typing, however, with the purchase of a wireless mouse, navigating became much easier! I am thrilled with the speed of the computer, and am very pleased with my purchase at this time. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a new computer.
