I bought this exact product in black at [...] since they were out of stock at my local staples. I found it pretty easy to put together and came with nearly all the tools you'll need (make sure to grab a philips head "cross shaped" screw driver out of your tool box first, it isn't included in the box). I got mine put together pretty quickly, and quite like it. It's perfect for what I want it for, a small desk for my laptop that I can wheel over to my bed and use the laptop while in bed without worrying about it overheating while on a blanket, or having some piece of wood attached to a pillow on my lap, which I don't find comfortable. The angle adjustments are at nearly pefect spots, but I'd like a few more adjustment spots for height, and also, and easier way to adjust the height. You have to unscrew two knobs completely to be able to raise or lower it, and then, while holding the top in that position, screw the knobs back in. I've also found that with even semi rough typing on my laptop the entire desk shakes and wobbles. If they were able to put in a brace or two somehow that would remove most of the wobble, but for this price, and it's extreme usability, and how perfect it is for what I want, I'm more than willing to put up with it. The mousing surface area does not adjust it's angle, which I find much preferable, who wants their mouse constantly sliding off the desk?My Laptop is a 13 inch HP DV3000 and the laptop portion of this desk is way more than ample in space to place the laptop, I even have room to put my targus USB numberpad next to the laptop. I'd venture to guess that you could fit even up to an 18 inch laptop. This is a laptop desk only, you wouldn't want to have to place an LCD monitor and keyboard on the desk and use it as a desktop computer desk. There are other carts that you could do that with, you just wouldn't be able to wheel it partially under your bed and use it like a hospital table. If you're looking for a small laptop desk that you can use with your bed that you don't have to actually place ON your bed, this is the BEST solution I've found yet. I highly recommend it despite it's slight flaws. The adjustments are just nit picks, the only major one is it's tenancy to wobble while typing, heck it even wobbles if I try and adjust the angle my LCD lid is open. That obviously because of it's primary design to be used as a laptop desk you can wheel partially under your bed and use like a hospital bed table. If you can afford and find an actual hospital table, that would probably be a better solution, though the angle the laptop sits at would not be adjustable.I haven't owned this item for very long, but I feel my past experiences, my capabilities both with computers, woodworking, and metal working gives me a chance to really give a review of this desk even though I haven't had it for long. All this being said, I highly recommend this product for laptop owners who like to use their laptops in bed, or have very little room for a desk. You could also use it with a couch or recliner in your living room, and not have to worry about your laptop overheating, or having your lap crowded with a plank of wood attached to a pillow, which is basically what the only competition to this desk is. At this price, I certainly recommend this as a very good buy. It is available in black if you do not like the wood finish, though I was only able to find the black at Wal-Mart so far, but it was the same price.

I used the product to support a 17" laptop. Each side is generously sized- the left side accommodates my notebook easily, and the left side (mouse pad) can actually hold a standard keyboard rotated 90 degrees. I actually use it to hold a wireless keyboard so I can sit far enough away from my desktop to use my it on my 42" LCD. The unit adjusts high enough to use comfortably when standing, and low enough to use while sitting on the ground as well. The z-axis tilting function works well and locks solidly.

There are three disappointing features of this stand and one major drawback:
1. The way the to secures into the base makes the unit lean -5 degrees toward the ground along the y-axis(the unsupported side.) Instead of having a spring-loaded pin on the welded to the outside of the rising column, two holes are drilled in the side of the square pipe. This causes the fit of the down pipe into the riser pipe to be imprecise yielding a -5 degree tip towards the ground on the y-axis. Not tremendously serious, but just annoying enough to be noticeable.
2. To secure the height one must screw in two screws which is time consuming whenever it is time to adjust the height. It could have been so much easier to weld a collar and spring-loaded pin (just like the one securing the z-axis adjustment) to the riser pipe. That would have solved problem one as well.
3. The build quality is B+. It's better than average, but there is just enough sway and tipsiness to preclude just grabbing it an moving it with no thought to it tipping. The casters aren't the best either and one frequently ends up getting inadvertently locked.

The one major drawback is that the notebook surface offers no ventilation; it's a solid surface. The retaining bars don't come up high enough to permit use of a cooling pad but that would suffer a similar consequence of having no place to breath or vent the hot air away.

Looks Great But No Quality Control

Comments about Altra™ Adjustable Mobile Laptop Cart:

Looks and functions great. Price is nice.
Package arrived crunched--but no damage to product.
Two places during the instructions I had to cut through hard plastic to get the screw to go through. (A flaw in production and instructions--and obviously a tool which was not on the required list!)

Once assembled, the two board pieces had simulated wood grain plastic coating coming off.

I called the 800 number to order replacement parts. After being on hold for 20 minutes, I went to the website.

I informed Staples of this lack of quality. A good product but the vendor needs to get a clue about quality control.

Mobile Laptop Table

Comments about Altra™ Adjustable Mobile Laptop Cart:

Easy to assemble for one person (and a helper for one step). This takes the place of the TV table I was using. Now that I have wheels, I can easily move the table out of my way when I stand up and move it toward me when I sit down.
The adjustable height is higher than the TV table which has taken a lot of stress off my neck. I can sit back and look straight at the monitor, My neck and shoulder pains have subsided immensely.
There is enough room on the table top for my Mac mini, a 21" monitor, speakers, and assorted other stuff I keep near me. I have a wireless keyboard that I keep on my lap, and the mouse and mousepad are on the arm of the sofa.

Comments about Altra™ Adjustable Mobile Laptop Cart:

Not exactly what I was looking for but does do the job okay. Very well built and well worth the money that I paid for it , I would recommend this for some one that is going to use it on wood or tile floors. Does not roll around very easy on carpet without a mat.
