I bought this exact product in black at [...] since they were out of stock at my local staples. I found it pretty easy to put together and came with nearly all the tools you'll need (make sure to grab a philips head "cross shaped" screw driver out of your tool box first, it isn't included in the box). I got mine put together pretty quickly, and quite like it. It's perfect for what I want it for, a small desk for my laptop that I can wheel over to my bed and use the laptop while in bed without worrying about it overheating while on a blanket, or having some piece of wood attached to a pillow on my lap, which I don't find comfortable. The angle adjustments are at nearly pefect spots, but I'd like a few more adjustment spots for height, and also, and easier way to adjust the height. You have to unscrew two knobs completely to be able to raise or lower it, and then, while holding the top in that position, screw the knobs back in. I've also found that with even semi rough typing on my laptop the entire desk shakes and wobbles. If they were able to put in a brace or two somehow that would remove most of the wobble, but for this price, and it's extreme usability, and how perfect it is for what I want, I'm more than willing to put up with it. The mousing surface area does not adjust it's angle, which I find much preferable, who wants their mouse constantly sliding off the desk?My Laptop is a 13 inch HP DV3000 and the laptop portion of this desk is way more than ample in space to place the laptop, I even have room to put my targus USB numberpad next to the laptop. I'd venture to guess that you could fit even up to an 18 inch laptop. This is a laptop desk only, you wouldn't want to have to place an LCD monitor and keyboard on the desk and use it as a desktop computer desk. There are other carts that you could do that with, you just wouldn't be able to wheel it partially under your bed and use it like a hospital table. If you're looking for a small laptop desk that you can use with your bed that you don't have to actually place ON your bed, this is the BEST solution I've found yet. I highly recommend it despite it's slight flaws. The adjustments are just nit picks, the only major one is it's tenancy to wobble while typing, heck it even wobbles if I try and adjust the angle my LCD lid is open. That obviously because of it's primary design to be used as a laptop desk you can wheel partially under your bed and use like a hospital bed table. If you can afford and find an actual hospital table, that would probably be a better solution, though the angle the laptop sits at would not be adjustable.I haven't owned this item for very long, but I feel my past experiences, my capabilities both with computers, woodworking, and metal working gives me a chance to really give a review of this desk even though I haven't had it for long. All this being said, I highly recommend this product for laptop owners who like to use their laptops in bed, or have very little room for a desk. You could also use it with a couch or recliner in your living room, and not have to worry about your laptop overheating, or having your lap crowded with a plank of wood attached to a pillow, which is basically what the only competition to this desk is. At this price, I certainly recommend this as a very good buy. It is available in black if you do not like the wood finish, though I was only able to find the black at Wal-Mart so far, but it was the same price.

Comments about Altra™ Adjustable Mobile Laptop Desk:

The legs of the cart do not fit under my furniture. This defeats the whole purpose in purchasing this product. It is sometimes hard to roll. Also, when I put the computer on it, tilt the top, and try to type, the whole surface shakes- not enough to feel like its falling apart- but just enough to notice it is vibrating or moving a bit when I am typing. I would not buy this product again- the biggest reason being that I purchased it so I could sit in the living room wiht my family, complete my work on the computer, and still feel a part of the family. Since the legs don't fit under our new furniture, I am just as well off putting the computer in my lap.

This cart is built for mobility and stability with the casters attached. Two have locks to keep the cart from moving. The bars are approximately 2" wide, however are slightly rounded. They will fit under your couch, with the casters on, as long as your couch is about 5 inched high. Less, with casters removed.

Can this be put together so that the mouse section is on the right and so that you can use it sitting or lying on either the right or left side of a bed? The picture looks like, to use the mouse on the right, I could only use it on a bed if 1) the laptop part will tilt back in the other direction (does it?) AND if 2) I slide it under the bed from my right side (sit on the right side of the bed). It looks as though I'd have to have the mouse on the left if I sit on the left side of the bed. Is that so?

The table does tilt either direction. You are right about the mouse table being on the right if you are on the right side of the bed and the left if you are on the left. There is no way to change that.

                  1. The larger surface for the laptop will tilt both ways with the mouse surface on either side. 2. It appears that it will only work well with the mouse surface on the right on the right side of the bed if you are sitting up in the bed with your feet toward the foot of the bed. It would work on the left side of the bed only if you put your feet toward the head of the bed. It appears as though you could put the work surface on the base moving it 180 degrees (you would have to drill 2 hols in the vertical support) and orient it so the mouse is on the right, but the laptop surface would not be able to go over the bed. Hope this was helpful.

Yes, the laptop part does tilt in either direction, however, the mouse section is stationary on the right only. This would mean that the mouse section would be on the left side if you slide it under the bed from the left as you stated. Also, to adjust the height, you need to remove the two knobs. Once you decide where you want the height replace the knobs. It would be nice to have it be more adjustable like a hospital over the bed tray.
