This item has a cherry wood-like veneer, not a real wood veneer. Like other furniture of this type, you need to be careful when moving it once it is assembled, as it is held together by those metal connectors and too much stress on the joint can pull them loose and crack the furniture. But it looks nice, and it is inexpensive.

The hutch looks darn good but it isn't completely computer friendly. There are no cutouts in the backing to run cables through. There is a slot at the bottom to slide cable through but if you want to use the shelves to hold cable modem, router, speakers, Vonage unit, you will need to perform surgery.
I didn't like the idea of running cables through the sides so I decided to cut a 2" strip above the seam of the backing panel that was the width of both the far left and right shelves. a 1" slot may have been enough. The use of a circle saw for a single 1" hole or 2 1/2" holes at each side would have been better yet.
The shelves are tall enough to clear my 23" wide-screen monitor so I am not limited to the center area. No issues with the CPU or UPS either.
Assembly was mostly easy except for having to attempt to pound nails into the bottom of the backing and attaching it to the bottom board of the hutch. That bottom board is not solid or braced so bounced up and down while trying to pound nails.
The biggest joke is the screws used to attach the unit to a wall. USELESS if you think that part of the setup would hold the unit to the wall...if you wanted to. Placing the desk and hutch against the wall forces cables to be routed through the slits on the side of the hutch and desk. BTW, there are no holes in the desk top for cable routing either.

I might recommend this to a friend, but with the caveat that it is very heavy(the hutch) and oddly doesn't support much weight on the top shelf. That shelf's accessibility was one reason i bought it in the first place.
