I hesitated before I purchased this product for my home office, as I could not find a sample in local stores. The only problem that I have with this cabinet is that I can't open both drawers at the same time - it will lose balance and fall. However, I don't have to open them at the same time. Over all, I am very pleased with it, given the $ I paid.

Poorly constructed

My husband took an entire afternoon to put this filing cabinet together, and when he was assembling it and putting in some screws, the particle board split apart. This is a very cheaply constructed unit, and we are very disappointed with the finished product. The upper drawer seems to be all right, but the lower drawer sticks and doesn't close freely. The only redeeming feature would be the finish, which is quite acceptable. My husband got so frustrated putting this together that he almost gave up and was planning to put it in the fireplace!

*I had a professional carpenter put it together for us. I have had a difficult time with other types of boxed-furniture. This lateral file is great. It looks perfect and it serves the purpose, which is to organize teaching materials.

It was pretty easy to put together, however, the black pieces that go on top of the drawers for the hanging files cannot be put on. Color and finish on unit is beautiful. Nice deep, rich color. Does not lock.

The title is not an oxymoron. This kit actually had all the holes line up exactly and the instructions were written by somebody that knows English. A real plus was having a complete set of parts and hardware. The parts were finished well and undamaged from shipping. Assembly was easy and there were no surprises (note that I like assembling things - not all might agree about it being easy). In summary, this is the most well made kit I have ever seen of this type and is as strong and durable as particle board can be expected to be.
