Worth the extra cost. The paper does not have the "sheen" of cheaper legal pads.

Have used cheaper products in past. No bleed through is best feature. Also, occasionally it is helpful to be able to use a pad without a portfolio. Because the base is so thick, it is strong enough to take notes in your lap.
