Having just installed FIOS, we were looking for a way to include our older desktop (Dell Dimension 4300) in the network for file storage. The previous reviews helped us to decide on the Belkin ethernet/usb adaptor. Thank you previous reviewers. My experience was exactly as they described EXCEPT when I first plugged the adaptor in, I plugged it into a usb multi port extender, which crashed the computer and required a reformat. No harm in this instance since a new hard drive had just been installed and there wasn't much on it but Windows XP, no other programs or data. After the reformat and Windows reinstall, the adaptor was plugged into the single usb port of the computer itself and it installed and continues to run flawlessly. Well worth the money! Just wanted to caution others to NOT try to use this device with a multiport USB adaptor without first backing up your harddrive. I still gave it 5 stars because Belkin can't be held responsible for my poor judgment.

Sturdy USB to ethernet adapter for older pc. Regretfully pc does not have Ethernet connection and this serves the purpose much better than cheaper dongles that were the way to go a few years ago.
