Comments about Belkin 6-Outlet 885 Joule Surge Protector with Metal Casing & Dataline Protection:

This was the only place I could find a reasonably priced surge protector with a metal case. Advice from experts 9firefighters) recommend a metal case. Much safer than a plastic case that can melt during a power surge thus creating a potential fire hazard.

Comments about Belkin 6-Outlet 885 Joule Surge Protector with Metal Casing & Dataline Protection:

Has solid metal frame for added safety. That's what I wanted since it's mounted next to the electric service panel. I used at entry point for cable, internet, and telephone service for the power supplies and to filter the phone line. The phone jack is only for single line but that's all I need and actually an extra since I didn't see that feature on any other metal units. The 885 is well suited for my purpose. I use additional protection for actual equipment, Belkin FP-30 for home theatre, additional surge protectors for computers, etc. Quite satisfied with the 885 for my purpose.

We have a plotter that we need a surge protector for. I know that we upgraded the outlet and ran 20 amp to the panel. Will this surge protector work or do I need to upgrade to something else

              • A:

The Belkin is a 15 amp non-resetable surge protector. For valuable equipment, you might consider the Tripp Lite ISOBAR4ULTRA. It is resetable and has a higher surge protection rating. If your plotter pulls more than 15 amps, you need a 20 amp surge suppressor. One way to tell what your plotter draws is by the power plug. If it is a normal 3 prong plug, it is a 15 amp circuit device. If the hot prong has a T on it, it is a 20 amp circuit device. The Panamax m2a20 is a good widely available 20 amp surge suppressor.

NO! I purchased this product based on the answer above, but I had a bad feeling. So I called Belkin and they confirm that this prodcut will only support 120V.
