I use it to keep heat from building up beneath the laptops, and while this deflects a good deal of it, some heat radiation is actually retained in the cushion and feels a bit uncomfortable on my lap.

This was an excellent purchase to use for my laptop. It's very light weight and with the slots on the side it's extremely easy to handle. You also can store your papers inside the slot but most important your laptop does not slide off.
