I hated to spend almost $50 for an item that I was basically, only going to use once...maybe twice but, with the time I saved and the peace of mind, it was worth it.

I wasn't aware that when the files were transferred, that it would automatically identify the type of file (like pictures, music, or documents) and place them on my new computer where they belong. (My previous experience doing this about 6 or more years ago had me spending a large amount of time moving the files back to the folders or paths where they belonged.) This was EeeZee. The on screen directions were great too.

The only drawback it would say I had was my initial attempt to confirm a connection between the computers. It didn't seem to work at first. Finally I took a chance, and although both ends looked similar to me, I flipped the connections from one computer to another, and then it finally began working.

Unable to Transfer Anything!!

Instructions were easy to understand! However, after going through all of the steps, the 2 computers wouldn't communicate, thus not able to transfer information!

Comments about Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows® 7:

I was under the impression that I could choose files that I wished to transfer, but was not given that option. Had to transfer all files, but worked out Ok. May be that this was due to my transfering between 2 Windows 7 computers? File transfer was very easy and quick.

Comments about Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows® 7:

I have never transfered files on my own before, so I took my time and did it one step at a time.

I was going from a 10 year old HP Pavilion (XP) with lots of outdated programs and apps to an HP all-in-one (Windows 7). I just wanted my files.

        This is what I did:
        1. I purchased and installed a couple of new versions of my programs.
        2. I downloaded and installed the newest available versions of apps and programs (iTunes, Browser, and etc.)
        3. I read the ENTIRE instruction pamphlet that came with the Belkin cable.
        4. I loaded the CD in my old computer and followed the screen prompts.
        5. In other words, I followed the instructions EXACTLY.
        6. I waited for it to transfer my 13 or so gigs of files.

The entire process only took about an hour even though I was going slowly and double checking everything I did.

Best of all, when the transfer was finished a screen showed a list of everything I needed to access my files. It indicated which ones I had and which ones I still needed. I had forgotten Adobe Reader and Java. I downloaded those and I was DONE!

This is a great, inexpensive product that I highly recommend.

              • A:

This will simplify transferring data from one computer to another. It plugs into the USB 2.0 port on both computers, and transfers files and settings from one computer to another. This does require that both computers must be working to transfer though. They do both have to have Windows operating systems too. The Windows must be at least Windows XP or higher.

              • A:

The Easy Transfer Cable is specifically designed to work with the Windows Easy Transfer application. Windows Easy Transfer is designed to transfer files and settings for system migration from Windows XP to Windows Vista, from Windows XP to Windows 7, or from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It cannot be used for XP-to-XP transfer.

I am trying to transfer from Windows Vista to Windows 7 with this cable and it won't connect. I notice that the Vista computer(old computer) mentions trying the CD included with the cable but I don't have one in my package. It also mentions upgrading my Windows Easy Transfer program but then I would need a USB flash drive as well and I don't have one--any suggestions?

No this will not work on Windows 98, it is too early a version, even before Windows XP. Windows 98 probably does not have come with a USB drive, if your older computer has a CD burner drive, you could save files onto a CD then upload from the CD to your new Windows 7 computer.
