I regularly use my laptop and desktop computers (Mac, of course!), sharing my Canon laser printer and and Canon photo printer. The simple change from one computer to another used top take a lot of time moving cables for my printers and external hard drives from one to another and a lot of wait time for the computer to recognize the new setup. Now, I simply select the computer (1,2,3 or 4) I am going to use and turn it on. The icons for the additional external hard drives are on my desktop and both printers are available for use as I choose.

The only reason that I went back to this item was due to the fact that the ports on the back were what I needed for the church computer that we use.
This is the 3rd one of the same product that I have used. The last one lasted 1 year almost to the day. Then it stopped
    working.

Regardless of what you may read in the reviews here, this device WILL NOT WORK with Windows OS7 64 bit. I hooked it up to a multi function Canon ImageRunner iF 1025 and two DELL Optiplex 390s running Win OS7. Got a message on both CPUs says "Not recognized."

NO it is NOT! I just bought this today and both of my Window OS 7 machines said "Installation unsuccessful driver not recognized". Look on the specs...nowhere does the package or the online specs say this device is OS7 compatible. I took a chance and bought it based on the previous answer that incorrectly says it is. IT IS NOT!!! I am taking it back to Staples for a refund.

This will allow 1 printer to work on up to 4 pc's. if you have 2 printers and 2 computers the best way to allow both computers access to both printers is by networking the printers.
