Comments about Best-Rite™ Projection Plus Dry-Erase Board with Aluminum Frame, 6' x 4':
In line with the rest of the multimedia field, this is a high tech and extremely versatile product. At this size I can write on it, display an image, and mount a chart - all at the same time. I use it primarily as a design tool because at this size it does not cramp my style. Whether it's a series of mathematical expressions or a sketch, there's nothing comparable to it for facilitating freedom of expression. I find that working at a board like this enhances my thinking process in a way that no other device can (think Charlie on "Numb3rs"). One of the best uses, other than writing or drawing on it, is using it to mount and study marine charts. These are often huge - 2x3 feet - and spreading them out on a table to read them is difficult at best. The board makes it easy without having to find an appropriately sized table, or bending over to see items at the top of the chart. I also use it to display images from a digital video projector; it's an ideal "screen" for that purpose and you can write on the "screen" at the same time - and of course it is large enough for several people to view at the same time - think instructional tool!
One caveat is in order. The board comes with a plastic film covering which you must peel off before using. But before using the board with dry erase pens, and after removing the plastic film, wipe the board clean with isopropyl alcohol, otherwise when erasing you will produce a dirty gray film that won't come off with the dry erase removal fluid. The isopropyl alcohol will work after the fact, but it will be less disconcerting if you clean up the plastic residue first.
Mounting. The mounting is slick and very simple - go to the Balt website to read how it's done - no instructions came with my board. Here is my recommendation. Determine the max height you want the top of the board. Secure the upper Z mounting clips (4) into wall studs at that height. Lift the board onto the clips. Mark the bottom edge of the board on the wall. (You will need two or three people to actually lift the board onto its mounting clips.) Remove the board from the upper clips. Mount the lower brackets (4) based on the bottom edge of the board you marked on the wall. Remount the board on the upper clips. Screw the bottom of the board to the lower brackets. Best to start with a small drill bit rather than the self threading screws. Voila! You are good to go.
