Kept Tripping AFCI Breakers

I ordered 2 of these printers and had them drop shipped to my users. One of them reported that when she powered it on, it would trip her breakers. I figured maybe it was just a bad printer so Staples sent a replacement. After recieving the new one, same problem. Scratched my head a bit and asked the user what the circuit was rated for that the printer was plugged into, which was 20A. Made sure she didn't have any other devices on the same circuit, which she didn't.

I asked the user to plug the printer into a 30A circuit she used for her dryer and VIOLA, it didn't trip the breaker. This made me think that this printer is drawing way more amperage than it actually is 'rated' for. Called BROTHER, which was a pain as they wouldn't take my word that I had already performed the suggested troubleshooting steps and made me get the user on the phone and repeat them yet again, tripping her breakers. Finally got to second tier support to somebody with some knowledge that was not just reading a troubleshooting guide to me on the phone. The tech told me this is a KNOWN ISSUE with this model tripping AFCI protected outlets. He informed me that Brother is working on a firmware update but it is not available to the general public. They offered to send me a new printer that has the updated firmware next-day air, which I accepted. Hopefully Brother gets a general release of the firmware update out to the public soon. Still boggles my mind a little how a firmware update could fix a printer causing an arc fault...but we'll see. I will update this review if the new firmware doesn't address the issue.

Love all the options. Legal copy, multi page feeder, usb scan etc... We bought it to cut back on expenses and so far we've had to buy 3 toner refills over a 2 month period. The toner that came with ran out after 2 weeks.
