It duplexes automatically. I never thought I would use this but I use it all the time. When I want to print more than one page I set the preference to duplex and it automatically prints on both sides (you do nothing!) thus saving paper and space in folders as there are less pages! Has toner saver mode. This is great for most of the things I print. Can print multiple pages on one page by making them smaller to fit (you can choose 2, 4 or 6 pages on one page)- it's smaller but for some things this is great - which in turn saves lots of paper! Can scan and copy too! When not in use it goes into a quiet mode so you think it's actually off but it isn't! More features than I will use but am happy I got this one. My 18 yr old Epson ActionLaser 1500 (which I loved beyond words and tried everything to get it to work) would not work with the new Win 7 OS on my new computer so I had to bite the bullet and get a new one. HATE inkjets as ink cartridges are so expensive and I rarely need color. The toner cartridges for this are around $50 and last for around 3,000 pages - and in toner saving mode even more! In my opinion, for the money ([$]) I could not have gotten a better printer. Love, love, love it!!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good home or small office laser printer. I almost don't miss my old one :-)

Overall looks like a good printer. But the first thing I noticed was there is a small fan on the side that runs all the time. This started to drive me nuts. Also when it boots up, prints or scans the lights in the room flicker. Very annoying. This tells me that the electronic parts are not very good quality. This is a bad sign and this printer won't last. Took it back right away. I am going back to Canon.
Comments about Brother HL-2280DW Laser Multi-Function Printer:
Lousy LCD screen. Wireless hard to setup. Scrolling thru all text and numbers plus characters is ridiculous. The wireless is unstable. Had a electrical light flicker last night and had to redo wireless. This is my last brother.
Comments about Brother HL-2280DW Laser Multi-Function Printer:
I bought this to replace an old HP laser printer and am very happy with it. The quality of the printing is very good. Scanning, copying, and duplex printing all work great, and the noise doesn't seem as bad to me as to some other reviewers. The TN-450 high toner cartridge lasts a long time for the money. I didn't hook up the wireless but may do at some point. I highly recommend this printer.
With the Brother HL-228ODW laser multi-function printer you will be able to scan documents and convert then to a PDF file and send them to an email account. You will have an option to send the files uncompressed or compressed.

CUSTOMER CARE
A:
With this great 3-in-1 you will be able to print, copy, scan your documents. The HL-2280DW can be connected to a Windows computer or a Mac: And can print in PDF format. The paper handling includes automatic duplexing (two-sided printing). You can scan to your computer or copy with the usual assortment of scaling and layout features. A Duplex button on the front control panel walks you through two-sided copying via LCD prompts. With these great features, you should easily be able to scan documents and convert them to pdf to send to email with this printer.

Q:
difference between "network ready" and "built in" as relates to wireless networking?
Asked on 2/19/2012 by Anonymous from scottsdale,AZ
This unit connectivity is both Wireless 802.11b/g, and Ethernet and Hi-Speed, and is also Network Ready. Network Ready refers to software designed to run in a network. It implies that multiple users can share the databases on the printer. This printer can be used on a lan connection with other computer or a wireless device.

Q:
Is this printer capable of double sided scanning and does it have a feeder or would I have to manual feed it?
Asked on 2/3/2012 by Rob Martin from Boiling Springs, SC
The Brother HL-2280DW Laser Multi-Function Printer only scans one side of a document at a time. The printer will print duplex (two sided). For two-sided scanning you'll have to feed the documents one at a time.

Q:
Can legal size documents be scanned with this printer?
What is the drum for? Doesn't this only need a toner? Is it needed to have both drum and toner? what is included in the package when bought? Does it include a USB cable or maybe an ethernet cable/ Cat6?
The printer drum is used in the printer to actually print a page. It is essential for your printer to work. You would need both the drum and the printer to use a printer for a printing job. In the package when you purchase it it will have a starter toner cartridge and a drum plus the printer. You would have to purchase a USB cable separately if you were needing it.
