Q: Is the following comment an accurate account of how it operates? "The printer requires changing the color and black toner cartridges based on pages printed. The printer will not function unless new cartridges are installed. I was putting $400.00 worth of cartridges every month and throwing away cartridges that were full of toner. " Asked on 1/25/2013 by river from Ohio Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: The comment is based wholly on how much printing is being done and if the commentator was able to objectively determine toner levels/existence in cartridges. This printer operates on 4 cartridges - one black and three colors - each of which are available in regular and extended output. The toners have average page outputs. For the black they are 2500 & 6000. Each of the color cartridges are estimated to print 1500 & 3500. You may need to buy one color more frequently than others, say if you print lots of blue things. Q: Will this product print in black if one of the color catridges is low on ink or empty? Asked on 5/2/2011 by Anonymous from Collegevill, PA Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: The cartridges print each color separately. That being said if you had a document that only had black it may print. If you have any other colors to print in the document it would still print but it would have faded/missing colors. Answered on 5/6/2011 by Sarah P from Staples A: The User's Manual says (page 47) that if one of the color toners runs out during printing, "you can choose to start the print job again in Mono mode". So yes, but you can't just *continue* printing in black. Answered on 5/6/2011 by Nonsuch from Seattle, WA
