Great Small Office Printer

Our small real estate office needed a new color printer for window ads, listing sheets, and legal documents. We had an HP Laserjet 2600N but we were very disappointed with the color quality. This new Brother HL-4570cdw prints vibrant, clear and crisp color photos, exactly what we needed. Other pluses: goes into deep sleep to conserve energy but has fast start up/print; somewhat easy set up (some of our computers did not recognize the drivers/software. we had to install manually with only the software); great for network printing. After a couple weeks of use, very satisfied so far.

I assume mine was defective

Though I've always had excellent experiences with HP laser printers, I decided to try this Brother printer because I recently had good experiences with other Brother products and it was half the price of the comparable HP. Sadly, I will be replacing this machine with an HP tomorrow. It can't print highly saturated colors. Even after performaing every available troubleshooting task,it had trouble printing dark blues and purples and jammed paper. Though I know I shouldn't expect a color laser to print photos, I do expect it to accurately print graphics for business brochures and this machine can't do it. I can only assume that the printer I got was defective because it was so highly rated, but whatever the reason, it is being returned.

Lives up to all the pros noted before. Great speed, fast start-up for each print job, compared to others we have had, easy using front page feed (for checks, etc). Good color, it matches the screen colors exactly so it has done everything we hoped for.

We bought this to replace a broken HP LaserJet 4250. It is a LOT quieter, takes up less space, and is very easy on toner. It is the cheapest price per page cost of the laser printers we looked at.

We read the manual and set up new default printer preferences and were amazed at how nice the printing looked. It was much crisper than the HP printer it replaced. The Brother website has new firmware and new printer software that made quite a difference also.

We have had no jamming issues and have run 7800+ pages through it as well as checks, mailing labels, filing labels and envelopes. The duplexing really shocked me. It was so fast and did not bleed from one side to the other. This will save a lot on paper costs.

We would definitely recommend it to any business office looking to upgrade to a laser color printer.

Great print results. REALLY great results. Horrible workaround to be able to print once the "replace toner" message appears. You shouldn't have to cover all 4 toner cartirdges with black tape to fool the electronic eye into thinking that there is still toner. You also shouldn't have to search the web to find out which buttons to press and in which particular order to overide it to start printing again. If the printer stops allowing me to print and I can still get 1000 pages out of the toner by overiding it...that's poor business. Gillette doesn't prevent me from shaving just because in their opinion my razor is dull. Fix this flaw and it's a 5 star printer.

  It can print labels but it is highly recommended to get good quality label stock that is designed for the high temperatures of a laser printer as well as the internals of the paper feed system. Check Brothers site for their recommendations.

  Although this machine can print envelopes, there is a maximum paper weight allowance. To avoid crinkling or jamming of the machine, use paper that is less than 43 pounds (less than cardstock thickness).

  1. VERY expensive refills. I don't print that much and all 4 cartridges have run out in 5 months. The replacement cost for the 4 cartridges is $200. Because it's a relatively new model, it doesn't appear there are options other than to buy genuine Brother Products.
  2. The printer just stops working when it deems that the tonner cartridges need to be replaced.
  3. The pages curl up at the ends.
  4. It won't print B&W or grayscale in PowerPoint 2010 even when selecting that option (Brother told me to call Microsoft and have them re-write PowerPoint software to fix this problem, which a complete blow off of a customer).
  5. It works great with a PC, but won't print color photos from a Mac (they come out B&W and won't size correctly).
  6. A little noisy but not too bad (don't plan to have a phone conversation via a speaker phone or headset if you're sitting within 10 feet of the printer while it's printing)

  I currently use Quickbooks Pro 2010 and a Brother all-in-one laser printer. The only problem I have is occasionally it will scrunch the Payee name on the checks. However, it is still very legible.
