The HL-5340D is a desktop monochrome laser printer for office homes or small offices. It offers a fast print speed of up to 32ppm and produces crisp, high-quality output at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. The HL-5340D features automatic duplex printing for two-sided documents and flexible paper handling via its 250-sheet capacity paper tray and 50-sheet capacity multi-purpose tray for printing custom paper sizes and letterhead. Optional trays boost total input capacity to 800 sheets. For lower running costs, a high-yield 8,000-page toner cartridge is available.

I've only had this printer about a week (that's why I gave it four stars), but so far I love it. I was previously using an inkjet, but am now in need of printing documents (a few times per week) with 30+ pages and need them very quickly. The inkjet just didn't cut it (too slow and too much ink). I purchased this printer and can't believe how fast I get my documents and how good the print quality is. This printer is definitely making my job much more efficient and less stressful. I love the duplexing feature and the set up and ease of use is terrific (I am technologically challenged!). I was up and running in no time at all. This was definitely a great purchase!

Not too bad if the printer is in an open space, but if in a pull out tray, very difficult. Fortunately, I have other printers I can use for envelopes. I would never have bought this printer with this complex evelope printing if I had known. Now too late to return. Stupid design concept.

I have been using Brother printers in the office for years, and all of the HL and BR series seem to have the same problem: The printed pages are curled, making them extremely difficult to stack and stape neatly. Other than that, no complaints.

Although the ad and instructions showed a CAT-5 connection, there was none to be found (later I found it is on the DN model). I installed a small printer server and it works GREAT! Since 99% of my printing is text, it is a lot cheaper and faster using this laser printer instead of an ink jet. The name-brand toner cartridges may be pricey, but I found generics for this model very reasonable. You can add more memory for little money by installing a PC133 SODIMM (laptop memory) up to 512MB. Unless you absolutely need colors on your printing, I would say this is the best printer for your home or small business for the money.

It keeps occasionally folding little triangles of paper in the corners, on double sided. The fold-up paper stopper looks a bit flimsy and kludgey, as if it were an afterthought to the printer dumping all over the floor. P.S. don't believe the salesperson who says buy only genuine toner. It costs 5 times as much as internet toner.

  Printers are what the business world calls a "loss leader"; basically, a company will sell something, in this case a printer, for below what it is normally worth, knowing the buyer will keep having to by another product (in this case ink) to keep the first one going. That is why replacement parts are so much, they are priced at the normal worth of the printer.

  Yes, this machine will. It has the auto duplexing feature for 2-sided printing. The custom sizes you can print using the multi-purpose tray are: 2.75" to 8.50" (width), 4.57" to 14" (length) so a 3x5 flash card will work.

  This printer is monochrome only - not color. As far as recommending or selecting a color printer - that will depend on numerous factors. Most of the current ink-jet printers will print in color and they can be much less expensive than color laser printers. Some do photographs really well but they all usually require the more expensive photo paper for a professional look. If you only print a single color image once then an ink-jet printer will probably be the less expensive way to go. If you print a lot of pages of the same color image you'll have to do a bit of research and cost analysis to determine if laser will be cheaper than ink-jet. Another option to seriously consider when needing to print something in color is the one-hour color prints that some stores offer.

  This is a black and white laser printer suitable for high volume document printing. If you want color printing you should get a color laser printer or an inkjet. If you print a lot, the color laser will be better, if you don't print a lot, the inkjet will be better. Keep in mind the cost of the laser is higher and also the cost per page is higher (the replacement color toner is expensive) when deciding what to get.
  
  Black and White laser printers are a lot cheaper in the long run if you only print black and white because you get a lot more pages out of a black and white toner than a black and white ink cartridge.
  
  HP, Brother and Canon all make really good printers. Generally speaking never get the cheapest model from a brand, something in the middle is usually the best value.
