I use it to print homework assignments for my 11 year old and to receive faxes. I would use the scanner if it worked properly, but it doesn't. I receive occasional faxes. It jams every time I try to print something. I almost threw it through a window because it is such a piece of junk!!!!!

I'm the director of small nonprofit and originally thought buying this multi-function machine would serve our office well. I was totally wrong. Not only did I have to exchange the first machine we got from [...] because the paper feeder made a horrible racket, but less than a year into our purchase the machine started printing a black line through everything -- faxes, print jobs, copies. I just got off the phone with Brother to get a replacement, and we're still in the warranty period. They fed me a bunch of bull about the drum unit needing to be replaced first (at my cost), which I already did to no avail. Despite my efforts to convince them that it was a problem with one of the spools handling the paper AND NOT THE DRUM UNIT, they still refused to replace the machine until I bought a new drum unit. Brother would not respect their own warranty, and so I informed them I would never buy another Brother product again. You shouldn't either.

can't scan or copy stuff unless it's on a single sheet since this is "sheet fed". Otherwise, very functional and super easy to set up.

I just replaced the older model of this (MFC-4800) that I bought in 2000. That lasted almost 8 years with NO problems and just recently the USB port went bad so I decided to get a new machine. This was a great choice. Fast printing/scanning and no jams so far.
