Have only had the unit 2 weeks. Set up was easy, easy to use and quality of copies is excellent. We purchase all of our replacement cartridges from someone that sells "refilled" units. Also he gets great prices on the replacement drum....but that isn't needed until after 12,000 copies!
That's a LOT of copies!!!

Use this in my home office. Heavy faxing, but the scanning software is awesome. Any text doc into searchable PDF. After scan into PDF, you can translate into a perfect Word or other MS Office document - one click! The OCR is nearly flawless. Software worth the price of the printer. Can buy toner refill kits on [...] for $10 good for 1500 prints. Highly recommend!

I mainly bought this printer, because I wanted to fax. I have sent 12 faxes and only one of them has gone through properly. It gave me a confirmation 3 of out the 12 times. Don't look for any instructions for fax troubleshooting, because there are not any. I have had paper jams, but only a few times. It was long & tedious to set up, which I am not used to because I use a Mac & set up is always easy on peripherals before this one. Its redeeming quality is the toner. Since I do a lot of copying, using toner instead of ink is way better. I usually use a kodak printer which is GREAt on ink and cheap for ink, but not as long lasting as toner. The Kodak also does not have a feeder tray so scanning and copying is easier with the Brother. In fairness to the printer, I have not tried to contact Brother to try to troubleshoot the issues I am encountering, because I dread long hold times and long talks on the phone with a representative. Maybe it works better with PCs, but it supposed to be just as compatible with Mac. I don't think I would recommend this product unless you're looking for cheap photocopying and faster scanning and do not care about the fax function. The fax function was VERY important to me so I am very unsatisfied.
