Mac scanning interface is confusing at first, but ultimately works fine. Setup of the machine for copying/printing is a breeze, but the scanning took a while to get the hang of.
Oddly, the manual that comes with the unit has extensive instructions on the fax machine functions (which I'll barely use), but literally NO information on scanning. The owner's manual on the disc (in pdf form) had a little more info, but still you're basically on your own. In this day and age it should be simple, but somehow it's not.
That said, the quality of the machine is good. Well, in terms of the actual printing/copying/scanning/etc. They don't make 'em like they used to -- the physical construction seems flimsy and I wonder how long it'll hold up. But overall I'm very happy with this unit.

I bought one when I started my business and after 11 months a gear popped out near the toner drum, and luckily it was fixed under warranty. I bought a second one to use during the time the original was at the shop, and within a week, the same gear broke. This time, my employee accidentally forced a door shut breaking a plastic lever, and now this will not be fixed under warranty, but is considered abuse, so I have to pay about $100 for the repair and part. Other than the flimsiness of the plastic gears and parts, it works ok, but uses a fair amount of toner. The brand name cartridges and drums are very pricey, but if you have a problem with the more reasonably priced aftermarket remanufactured parts, it may void your warranty. Certainly after a year, I would go with the aftermarket drums and toners, but be sure the drums are not missing any parts.
Comments about Brother® MFC-8480DN Laser Multi-Function Printer:
Have used Brother products for over 10 years and they work extremely well. The MFC printer set up is easy and worked without any problems.
I find the Brother MFC copier/printer one of the most reliable products on the market. The MFC has taken a beating through usage and a person accidently knocking it into a wall. Some parts were broken but the MFC continued to functions for another year.
We must do about 500,000 copies on the MFC, so it is a workhorse.
Comments about Brother® MFC-8480DN Laser Multi-Function Printer:
We scan about a 40 page contract at a time, looked at the commercial units costing several thousand dollars and told the salesman we could not afford to spend so much, they said just go to a big box store like Staples and buy the Brother MFC 8480 DN and it will do what you need for your needs at a good price to fit your budget. We are more then happy, great fast scans and printing - well made and a great value - buy it -why overpay for something you do not need!
Comments about Brother® MFC-8480DN Laser Multi-Function Printer:
I print documents for loan closings - so being able to print both letter and legal and also scan legal was very important to me. So far - I am really loving my new printer. I have only had it a couple of weeks but already put it to the test.
The Brother MFC08480DN does have duplex printing, even auto-duplex which means the paper doesn't need to be manually flipped by a human, the printer does the flipping.
