Just do it -- get away from the slavery of ink cartridges. I'm so mad with HP over their cartridge lifespan that I will actively never buy another one of their products. This Brother printer is simple, easy to use/operate, has a great user interface both on the hardware and in the software, is fast, and print quality is great. One of the other greatest features is that they didn't try to "add value" to the software. Scanning or OCR is a simple affair, not complicated by "projects", "templates", having to enter dumbed-down user interfaces just to save your scan as a .jpg. Just intuitive, simple actions to get the results you want. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of the HP "All-In-One" devices. The software and cartridge lifespan will make you insane. Go with this Brother and you will not be disappointed in any aspect of the product. It's a darn steal at this price for the capabilities of fax, copy, print, scan with access via Ethernet, wireless, USB key (photos), or direct USB connect.

Typical Toner Eater

Use this for light duty business applications. Runs through toner like a fish through water. Bought this to replace a horrible HP unit that was noisy, clunky and I thought used too much toner. The HP unit was still working and dependable. This Brother unit is quiet and smooth, very easy to set up and network, but uses toner faster than the HP unit! You have to single feed anything but normal printer paper. These companies need to be put out of business. Does anyone actually know a printer that gets even close to the rated number of pages from a cartridge????? These printer companies are thieves with their toner business model, nothing less.

DON'T REPLACE TONER CARTRIDGE IF IT SAYS THAT YOU ARE OUT!!! I have to post this everywhere I can. I have this printer and there is a error in the software that is giving "low" toner cartridge warning and then eventually telling you that you have to replace the toner cartridge. DON'T DO IT!!! If you check the reviews for this printer everywhere online, everybody is having the same problems. Ink is running out too fast. I used this printer for a few months and the machine said that I had low toner and then eventually that I have to replace toner for all the colors. I spent a lot of money and replaced all the starter ink cartridges with full ink cartridges. After a few months of light printing the machine was telling me that all the colors ran out. I complained to brother, but they would not do anything about it. There is a toner reset menu, that once reset, allows you to keep printing without buying new toner. Just do the following...
TONER OVERRIDE:
Turn on the machine. Once the machine has completed the start up process, open the toner access door. The lcd should say that it is open. While the door is open, press the Clear/Back button. You will then see the toner reset menu. If you have the starter cartridges, click the "TNR-STR" and the color and then reset. Do this for all the colors. If you have the high yield cartridges go to "TNR-STD" and reset all the colors. God Bless and Enjoy!!!! :-)

We've only had this printer set up in our office for a few weeks. It had a strange high pitched noise in the beginning when it was shooting out the copy but our IT guy has resolved it. At this point I would call it a very quiet machine. Standard printing is good and copies are very good. The toner cartridge it comes with does not last long so be sure to order a standard or XL cartridge along with the printer. We've noted the date we changed the black toner, now we shall see how long it really last!! :) All in all quite pleased with this product.

We have always loved Brother printers for their robustness and the perfect print quality we always get. This one has smaller toner cartridges than our 4040CN had and it produces only half as many prints per cartridge but the cost is about the same for the cartridges, so our printing cost has doubled by moving to this one. It is also a nuisance, when the cartridges are getting low they send a notice to your computer, all of the time. The document said 1,400 prints per toner set but this one started sending warnings at 600 prints and required all of them to be changed at 900 prints. Funny how all 3 toner cartridges ran out at exactly the same time!!! Good print quality but brother is getting greedy. So, stay away from Brother right now, they are out to take more of your money.

I paid [$] for this printer in December to replace an old Brother black & white laser printer. I've been happy with it so far except I see [@] has the Brother 9560CDW for [$]. For $20 more the 9560 does 2 sided printing. Oh well...

If you are looking for a consistent, reliable product, buy something else. The machine we purchased continually says "paper jammed" when there is no paper jam, especially when attempting to print envelopes. In order to trick the machine and clear the imagined paper jam you have to practically take the whole thing apart, remove all the print cartriges (4), remove the underlying panel then hope that the time you wasted will clear the alleged paper jam. Unfortunatley it began giving us trouble after the 14 day return policy from Staples so they won't take it back..so now I have to wait for the executive who is using it to be off his computer and call Brother to have them attempt to troubleshoot the problem. My advice is before you purchase a printer go online and see what the issues are.

  According to Brother, the manual feed for this product is located in the front of the machine. The flap will fold out allowing you insert one page at a time. The manual paper tray is only recommended to print labels and envelopes. This printer can accept the following sizes of paper: A4, A5, B5, B6, A6, executive, and folo size paper. This paper would need to be placed in the bottom paper tray. The maximum weight of paper that can be used is 43 lbs. To order this product you may contact us at 1-800-333-3330.

Will this printer accept index weight (110#) cardstock, and transparencies. From product description with paper exit in back when using manual paper tray it appears so, but answers on the Q&A says 28# which is not cardstock weight. Please confirm? Thank you.
