Print Images and Documents Quickly

The Brother MFC-J6710DW prints up to twelve pages per minute in black and ten pages per minute in color. Built-in Wireless

Purchased this printer to replace a $3,000+ HP Color LaserJet production printer that needed a new drum kit. It ended up also replacing a Lexmark multifunction we used for copies, scans, faxes, etc that was eating us alive on ink costs. This printer cost less than the CLJ drum, and it scans! and copies! (and faxes, but we haven't hooked that up yet.) Normal quality print is VERY fast, but the colors are a little milky, and black print is identifiable as coming out of an inkjet printer, but the Photo quality setting puts out print that is at least equal to the Color LaserJet, with color photos and diagrams that have better contrast and luminance, probably due to a larger available color gamut (not quite the equivalent of a high end Epson photo printer, but does photos pretty nice on glossy paper), but a trained eye will be able to see that the black type lacks the specular highlights of black laserprint, more resembling the output of a commercial offset press (which could actually be a plus). But the photo quality setting is intollerably slow-about 1 min 40 secs per page, and it will not print duplex automatically in photo mode, so a 250 page report printed with color laser equivalent quality manually duplexed takes about a half workday, or about 3 to 4 times the laserjet; same report in normal quality auto duplex takes less than an hour-faster than the laserjet-and doesn't require babysitting. Since most of our clients want reports emailed as PDFs, it is now rare to need to print a report for a client, so the slow print is more tolerable for us than it would have been a couple of years ago, and the overhead of floor space, consumables storage, repair and maintenance of a full color laser printer is non-existant. It will sometimes crash trying to print a really high resolution color image at 11x17, but we have learned some workarounds. It is wonderful for printing scanned PDF blueprint pages reduced to 11x17, and 11x17 aerial photos and maps for use in the field. First page printed is almost instantaneous-way faster than the 4.5 min warmup of the color laser, with no heat and much quieter. We had NO hickups on the install, and the wireless network setup works VERY well-both surprised us. We got almost 600 pages on the starter cartridges, so the cartridge page ratings are pretty close. The ink is pricey at Staples, and off-brand internet ink is a fraction of the cost, but we haven't been brave enough to try it yet. But when we consider that there is no drum kit, no transfer kit, no fuser kit, and one service call on a CLJ is more than this whole printer costs, then the brand name ink actually almost pencils out-especially since our print requirements are less than they used to be. Ink pencils to about a third the cost of the cheaper and smaller Lexmark multifuction. It is a little bit cheaply built and flimsy-not heavy duty like a heavy HP CLJ, which worried us initially, and so we do not bang it around. But it is actually much better built than the Lexmark multifunction that we also replaced or other inkjets we have looked at. We were looking at repair costs and strong increases in consumables on our CLJ or spending a couple grand on a replacement. We decided to dice roll a couple hundred bucks on this printer thinking that if it didn't work, at least we would have an 11x17 scanner and copier, which alone would be worth it for us, but since our production print requirements are about ten percent of what they used to be (because of PDF emails) this printer has filled the gap very nicely and is a good value. It has a sheet-fed scanner which we haven't tried yet, so it may end up replacing our Fujitsu ScanSnap as well-literally replacing three pieces of equipment AND the computer dedicated to run them. If it printed the photo quality setting in duplex mode so we wouldn't have to babyset it to manually duplex, it would be perfect. We've printed about 3,000 pages so far in about 3 weeks, and have been very pleased.

Does not copy two-sided to two-sided like EVERY other printer I have ever owned! Lousy instructions, very vague. I use computers and even instruct classes. The installation was ridiculously difficult! I am leaving Brother!

This is one for the best printers I have ever had. It beats my HP in all ways. It is fast, good quality, low cost for the printer. Love the feeder, and especially two paper trays, and the fact that it will go up to 11X17 paper, print and scan. Do not like the manual double sided print.
It was advertised as double sided print so I thought automatic, but not.

This machine is totally slow and aggravating to use eventhough the print quality is great. If I didn't have all the time in the world to reposition the manuel feed paper 4-7 times per print I'd have thrown it out the window long ago.

I a using this product. There was a paper jam. I cleared it,and it seemed lo be ready to continue printing but after, it began printing illegible very light lines. I hit stop/exit and it claims there is another paper jam. There isn't. Don't know what to try next.
