Worth the $$

I am engineer working from home, and constantly need printing of 11x17 sheets. For a minimal startup cost company, this printer is perfect! It has scan/fax/copy/print abilities. It can sca/fax/copy/print 11x17 in monochrome or in color. I usually just scan in hand sketches and scan them to my drafters, it has been working so far.
Some people complains about the quality of printing - Yes, it is NOT the laser printer quality and not HP photos printer quality, but it does the work great. It is clear enough to show the construction drawings in 11x17 printed out from this printer. I actually feel comfortable just releasing 11x17 official sheets using the 'fine' quality printing.

Setup was easy - just put in the CD and follow the instruction. if you are using wireless, which I am, make sure the wireless network is working, and make sure you configure the printer to find the wireless network BEFORE you plug in the CD.

Scan function is very easy to use. Just click on an icon on your computer, and select color or black/white.

If I have to list any cons, it will be printing speed and double sided printing ability. It's not really that slow, it's just not as fast as other $150 printers on the market, but none of them has the abilities of this one.

So, if you are looking for a startup home office, and want a 4 in 1 printer that could print 11x17 and below $250 - this is the only printer I found on market.

This is a Slow Beast

I bought this out of frustration with HP printers and the document feeders constantly breaking on me. I had a lazer Brother printer I used that was a workhorse and didn't need repair.

This new printer is very large and takes up a good deal of desk space. This I knew before I bought it but I didn't care too much especially if it was going to do all it promised.

The real bummer for me is how slow it is between making copies. The actual time it takes to make the copy is fast, but for some reason when it is done with one copy it takes a good 20-30 seconds for it to make lots of noise and do what it needs to before it's ready to make another copy. What a pain in the butt especially if you've got a bunch of copies to make which are not able to go through the document feeder.

Besides the capability of 11 x 17 printing there is nothing special about this machine.

I would trade it in for and HP and get a 3 year warranty to fix any problems that might arise if I could afford it right now.

I'm a design student and planned on using this printer for 11x17 architectural documents. Unfortunately, the first one I received did not print black, I brought it back to Staples, and the employee dropped the paper tray breaking the printer even further! We sent it back, and I received another one a few days later. Same problem, it wouldn't print black ink. I am giving it one more try... I have a third on the way that hopefully will work. So far though it's been a terrible waste of time and money.

I stalked this printer for almost a year at $300. Sometimes see it on sale for $250, but this price is excellent! I wanted to replace an HP OfficeJet 7590, this does almost everything the HP did (doesn't duplex), but adds 11x17 size print/scan, much, Much easier operation, and much, Much, MUCH better install/driver software. Faxing is great, scanning is great, 2 print trays is great, love Brother printers!!

Previous brother printers had suffered clogged print head in very dry climate. I'll see how this printer fares.

I bought a refurb. Everything about the printer works extremely well. mechanically the printer feels well constructed. I'm most impressed with the B size scanner. Spec says 48bit color but operation is 24bit.

If a big foot print and slow print speeds are turn offs, look somewhere else. I knew about these two items before I made my purchase. This was no deal breaker.
I always get good service out of Brother Printers. Almost laser quality.
Save money and buy refurbished. I have never had a problem.

Best 11" x 17" printer on the market. I looked at all brands, and nothing compares for the price and low ink usage. Main reason for buying was the ink cost, and usage. My last all in one printer was a ink sucking Epson, that used extreme amounts of ink every time it was turned on, which I could not wait to throw into the dumpster.
