I am using this All-In-One for my research studies. So far it has exceeded my expectations. It has a very intuitive menu layout. I am mostly using it as a printer, scanner, and copier.

I have this setup as a network printer connected directly to my wireless router. Setup is very easy with this unit but you will have to assign an IP address to the printer to help in the set-up. So some knowledge of setting up networks is needed. It is much easier than network printer use to be! Also the unit comes with a USB cord for those who will be connecting directly.

The duplex scanning with the ADF is a huge plus for this price point and works very quickly. I have been scanning directly to a USB thumbdrive connected to the printer. For my setup this is the easiest option. It is also possible to scan directly to any PC on the network but I have not setup that feature yet.

The included accessories are a telephone cord, new toner, new drum, USB cord, installation software CDs, and printed documentation. SO it appears now they are shipping with new consumables (ie toner and drum unit) unlike what some of the other reviewers have noted. Also in my opinion the only missing accessory is a network cable.

Overall this All-In-One has quite a few features that would be an excellent match for home offices and also small workplace settings. Toner cost is low. The only minor complaint is no network cable is included.

Pretty good, but curls paper

I'm on the fence about this printer. It scans and copies pretty well--I especially like that it can automatically scan two sided documents through the document feeder. It also prints with the speed and quality you'd expect of a laser printer, and at a low cost per page. Although refurbished, it arrived in great cosmetic shape, nicely repackaged by Brother.

The big problem I've just noticed with this machine is that it tends to curl pages more than my old HL5250-DN did. The corners of a newly printed document will end up about about an inch off the table. This is sort of an annoyance, since it makes pages a bit harder to turn and sometimes causes pages to stick together as they are pushed into the paper tray.

You can sort of uncurl the pages manually, but this is a hassle and doesn't work completely. There's a "print with reduced curl" option in the printer manager (Brother may be aware of this issue), but it doesn't seem to do much (I'm using the "reduce curl" option now, and I just printed out the paper I measured at 1+ inch of curl). I've found that the heat generated by this printer also tends to fuse shut the glue on envelopes.

I also wish it were possible to disable the bright function LED's on the front of the machine. Finally, note the large size of the box this unit ships it. When I tried picking it up at Staples, it wouldn't fit in my car.

So, I still might return this machine--if I can find a way to get it back to the store.

bought this on recommendation of a business associate. In process of replacing cartridges for a 4 year old lexmark all in one to the tune of about $150 a piece and decided to try something different. This [$] (with rebate) refurbished machine has already been more impressive with the speed and quality of the scans. Easy to find the file in my system and send on. Copies just as good and fast. Only 3 weeks into this but have been impressed so far. Had one issue about what tray to use and called for help and it was solved in minutes, not a problem with the machine but how I was inputing items. Based on early returns would do this again.

I don't know how you can't give this machine a 5 star. I've gone through HP office jets like chewing gum. Good machines but the HP software is a big program that is sometimes slow. Scan's use a lot of MG and also slow. If your a small business, this machine is it. Paperport software is very easy to install and use. Another plus that this machine did is fax via a VOIP line (Magic Jack). I don't know another machine that has done that. If this doesn't cut it for you, then you need a commercial printer/copier/scanner ( which I also have) but this is 1/4 the price and 1/6 the size. I would definitely pay full price, but struck with luck that Staples had a refurbished for 1/2 the price. Prints, Scans, Fax and copies very quickly- I'll be looking out for more Brother products in the future.

Works great on Pc's, Macs work great initially, after a few days the cooling fan is running on Max. Only solution is hard boot. Then Control Center disappears. Reload software, repeat. Prints great from Mac, just can't scan with the jiggy software doing this. Hope there is a fix... if so, please inform. I like Brother and have had several. Just don't loose your software, you can't download everything you need if it's lost.
Much less expensive to operate than HP, I will buy another Brother. Works great wirelessly using a Router on my home network.

Don't be afraid of Refurbished, it has a full 12 month warranty. Looked new, with Hi capacity toner.

  The flatbed is indeed legal-sized, and the copier function has reduction capabilities. Of course, if you reduce a legal-sized document (8.5 x 14) to 11" tall, you'll also reduce its width to about 6.7", and generally make everything about 75% as big as it once was.
  
  As far as I remember, the MFC unit itself can't just shrink the "length" and leave the "width" alone. Most computers these days would be able to do that just fine, though everything would necessarily look "short and fat"...
