Many people complain about the short toner life of the TN cartridges for the Brother lasers. I found out that the toner cartridges only use about HALF the contents before indicating a replace toner message. Also, it's MUCH MUCH cheaper to refill your own cartridges rather than keep purchasing refills. Just keep in mind that the starter cartridges are made differently and it's best to toss them and buy the full toner cartridges first, then just buy refill kits and refill them yourself. There are "how-to's" on youtube. And finally, as I mentioned earlier the toner cartridges are only half empty when they indicate they're empty. Here's a youtube video on how to reset the flag gear so that you can continue to use the toner for about twice as long[...] that helps.

I certainly expected better performance for the price (both the printer's price and the cartridge price). I am a tax preparer (a franchisee) and used this printer to do marketing pieces and to print tax returns for clients. Didn't even get 750 pages from the black cartridge.
