I use my HL 2170W for both personal and work documents. The toner cartridge lasts about as long as I would expect it to...in my case, short of the 2,600 "possible" pages, but not bad at all, and well within range of that which my HP Laser jet at work gets for a comparable cartridge.

Not to demean anyone, but I think that folks really read too much, or mis-read, what is being "promised" with ANY laser or ink jet replacement carts! The estimated yield is exactly that,an estimation based on a theoretical average amount of ink or toner per page of text, only about 5% total coverage.

Even a few pages with any amount of graphics/photos or charts will greatly change the amount of toner/ink used versus what the estimated "average" is. The reality is that most of us will not get the number of pages per cartridge of ink or toner, and that is the same for all brands! That is not meant as a mis-leading figure, or an attempt to rip off the customer. In reality, it is impossible to quantify "pages" that can be printed, when the amount of toner/ink used can vary so widely based on usage.

It is indeed possible to get anywhere from 400 pages to 2,500 pages with the same cartridge, based on what is being printed.

I used the TN-360 in my Brother MFC-7840n, upgraded from a Brother MFC-7820n. Compared to the TN-350 toner used in the older printer, this toner is pricier and gets used up much faster, even though supposedly the TN-360 lasts for 100 pages longer. It absolutely feels like Brother is far overpromising, and then intentionally designing the toner to need more frequent replacement in order to drive up their sales.

    I need to prepare documents to give clients, using many pages at a time. I need it to be long lasting, it promised 2500 copies per cartridge therefore if I have a case of laser paper which is 2500 pages they should last the same amount of time. If you do shake the cartridge it will last longer

    I like the brother MFC with small footprint. a lightweight compact unit perfect for my uses.
    some reviewers should have chosen the much larger and heavy MFC from brother as they apparently are heavy users and need a larger toner cartridge. as for 2 sided, if needed,
    then choose one that includes that, please!
    It will usually have a D in the model # for duplex printing. also do not confuse duplex printing with full diuplex scanning. these units are good low cost and not for heavy use unless you use several of them in one location.
