This printer is very nice. I have had the Brother P-Touch labelers for years now. I have two both at least 5 years old and both work great. The ones I have are NOT PC capeable, and have the built in keyboard.What I love about this 2430PC printer is that you see EXACTLY what it will look like when it prints. The hand held ones I have have a very small LCD screen you have to scroll to see what you are typing, and it is hard to remember how to change settings if you use it only once in a while like me. My hand held ones are also limited to 1/2", where this 2430PC is up to 1".Be aware you can do NOTHING with this without a PC.Also be aware to use "Expert/Advanced" P-Toch editor you need to flip the switch on the back of the printer to the other setting, and install the printer driver first. It took a bit of setup, but I love the look of it. I ended up getting 1" tapes from someone locally, but the retail price (Staples for example) of 1/2" was NOT much cheaper than 1" wide tape. Like $5 more, for double the print surface and the ability to have several lines on 1" wide prints. Well worth it IMO. If you are looking at the smaller 1/2" PC printer version, try and justify getting the bigger one. You can use either size but can not use 1" on the smaller unit. I got this unit for [$] on sale, a no brainer.

The excessive use of tape BEFORE EACH label prints makes this NOT a good choice. It waste about 1" of blank tape with each print. This is unacceptable and when I spoke to the rep about it she said that there was nothing I could do about it. It seems as if Brother as built is a nice way to keep people buying expensive label tape. I suggest that you buy the Dymo Label Writer machine. It is about $20.00 more but it does not waste tape or jam as easy. I am still with in the return guidelines and I may just do that.

This device is great. I have several brother printers and enjoy using them. I do hate how they waste 1" of label everytime I print, but have gotten used to that. This device is my most complicated one (others are hand held). If you need portable and quick, this is not a good choice. If you need something you can SEE the full label before you print and design it, then this is superb. This is very feature rich with the PC software, but is useless without using a PC (be warned!). I would not have my kids or wife use this, but when I use it (which is occasional) I love it. I label PC parts when I put them in, and use hand helds for this quicky task, but this printer, since it does WIDE 1" labels I use for specialized tasks. This unit NEEDS a PC to function, and can take every TZ size up to 1" wide. Very nice being able to totally customize what you are about to print before you print it. Autocutter is great too (except for wasted 1" of label every print). Not for the timid, and not a quicky thing (I use handheld standalone 1/2" one for that) but for it's function it is superb...

We use this to make a variety of product labels. Easy to set up your own templates, and quickly change from portrait to landscape. Sizes text to fit when you choose a fixed label size and you see the results before you print. Only thing not 100% happy with is some label tape was wasted before we figured out how to chain print and turn off the auto-cut feature. Would have been quicker if it had been found in help, but most features completely self-explanatory. Great product at a great value.
