      I just purchased this drive station about a week ago, so it is still too early to tell of it's full potiential, but so far it has been great. I have had to relocate when I sit it, as it had a noticeible vibration on my desk that was distracting to me. It is quieter now, but I can still catch a hint of noise, sometimes. It just travels through the furiture it sits on. It is compact and you can take it anywhere needed. It is a good product.

          I looked around the other websites for a high capacity and attractive external hard drive and couldn't believe my eyes when i came across the Buffalo external. While the other hard drives boasted low prices and high capacity, the Buffalo showed me the most bang for my buck. It's quiet and sleek. It fits anywhere and really doesn't require an on/off switch which I find is better than reaching behind the unit to turn it off and on. Its really refreshing to know that it only comes on when i turn my PC on. It also shuts off when my PC goes to sleep. it requires no setup. Just plug it in and start using it. I think i'll order another.

                I got this last week, and was delighted at first. Even though I believe it's available, this unit doesn't have the annoying and sometimes confusing "Restore" and "Auto Back-up" features popping up all the time, that other units have. I simply dragged and dropped my data to it, and that was that. Perfect!

                Then the unit started making a "thumping" noise. It's not constant, and there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. I told technical support about it, and they said that I've probably got a defective unit.

                They sent me an email telling me that I have to pay them as much as $30.00 to take the unit back, PLUS provide a credit card number to boot! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I haven't even had it for a week, they feel that I've got a defective unit, yet they are going to charge me for another one? NO, I don't think so!

                You've been warned folks... steer clear. Companies that operate in this manner shouldn't be in business....

                    If you are looking for an external hard drive that can be used to back up files from multiple computers, I can suggest the Staples item #406044, Iomega 2TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition.
                    For the Universal Serial Bus USB, yes your existing USB 2.0 gear will work on version 3.0 ports and vice versa.
