I bought this to do as a project with my 6 yr old granddaughter and 8 yr old grandson. We had a great time doing this together. My grandson loved putting the buildings together. My granddaughter loved the glue and the glitter! It was a fun craft to do with them--I wasn't looking for perfection, just a good time with a Christmas activity.
It was easy to punch out the pieces and to fold them along the embossed lines. The tricky part was the gluing of the tabs, and most of the time that was simple, except for the curved roof on the one house. It just didn't want to stick. I think on the whole the tabs could have been bigger. The glue was difficult to get off my fingers--I had to scrub. The booklet was very helpful and it told how to make future houses with the templates. The snowmen and trees were easy to put together and decorate. You don't have to use a brush to decorate the houses, but we chose to use one to give the glued areas more definition (we used disposable brushes, nothing fancy). I haven't put the fence together yet. We didn't do it all in one sitting; it took a couple sessions, and I will have to finish up the last details. We sold our house and all of our decorations are in storage; this activity served two purposes: time with grandchildren and decoration for our temporary apartment! I wouldn't use this with children younger than 6 years old--probably better with 8 years and older.

This looked excellent when I purchased the package. My 9 year old had a lot of trouble getting the edges to fold correctly so the houses would come together.

The glue was all over the place.

We did work together on another piece and it was a little better. Once created the painting and glitter was simple for the child.

      Crhiistmas village

Comments about Sterling Publishing Build a Christmas Village:

We brought this product to a pot luck dinner at and elderly apartment complex. Over 12 elders spent a group time together building this project. Not only was it therapeutic for them, they were also able to build strong relationships with each other. Imagine something for less that 12 dollars could do this

My granddaughter picked this item out to work on building a Christmas Village for her family. It was a great project for her to spend time with both her grandfather and myself. At 8 years old she has spent six hours working to make it her own creation. She loves it!

Comments about Sterling Publishing Build a Christmas Village:

I will not know if my eleven year old granddaughter is truly going to like the Build a Christmas Village by Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. until I give it to her for Christmas. However, it certainly looks like it would be something she would like and that it should be a fun activity for her to do during the Christmas holidays. I always like to give her something like this Village so it can instill creativity in her.

Trying to update my Christmas Eve traditions. Each year a friend and I do a craft on December 24th. Guess what it is this year! Looking forward to it. Plus, she gets to take the end product home this year which is bound to make her happy.
