I ordered this bookcase last week. It was really heavy at first, but once its out of the box its not that bad. There was no real damage, only a little nick on one of the boards, and all the pieces were there. I assembled it alone and it took 2 hours to complete. All you need is a hammer, a large and small flathead, and a sharpie and ruler for the back. The instructions are mostly pictures, but its not really complicated. The only problem came with putting on the back. I was unsure how to line it up properly so it wouldn't be crooked, so I used a ruler and sharpie to mark the corners. The back is cardboard and comes tri-folded, not a big deal because once its done the bookcase is quite beautiful and very sturdy. Just a couple of notes on the set up: There are 50 nails used for nailing on the back and they're a bit weak, so be careful when you hammer them in. There are holes in the back so you'll know where to nail them down. In step 5 it says you should nail 4 pins into the bottom of the bookcase but those pins will make the case unsteady and wall tethering necessary. I didn't use them and the bookcase sits fine. Use furniture disks or a mat if using on wood floors to prevent scratching. After you hammer the nails in the back, go back to steps 3&4 and re-tighten the large screws. If you don't the case will wobble when you stand it upright. Then add the brown pegs (you only need 8, the list on page 3 made it seem like you needed 24). All in all a great buy, holds 25-45 books per shelf( factoring size) and proves it is possible to buy something of quality without paying $300+.

When I went to pull off one of the stickers attached to one of the pieces it pulled the cherry skin right off and left a big ugly white patch the size of a quarter. Fortunately I had a marker that was cherry colored and was able to color it in so it wasn't as visible.

We are book publisher and we have been using several of these shelves in the office for awhile now. We currently have 8 of these in the front office and are adding 2 more. They hold and display all of our books nicely. The only complaint we have is the backs of them are really flimsy and hard to put on, and once together, they don't butt up squarely against one another.

I was really excited when I ordered this bookshelf. It looked gorgeous in my room; however, one day I noticed a couple of the shelves seemed crooked. The metal pegs that supported the shelves had broken the side panels and collapsed. I did not have heavy books on the shelves, so I am disappointed by the poor construction.

I have 300+ hardback books to display/store, so I bought two Bush 5-Shelf wooden bookcases. I have been pleasantly pleased with them. All of my books fit and the one-inch shelves support the weight without buckling - which is rare with cheap bookcases like these. For the money, the bookcases look really good.

I was suprised at how easy this was to put together and how much weight the shelves can hold. I got two to hold my entire book and photo album collection and it works wonderfully. Very nice looking. My only complaint is the backing is kinda flimsy and it takes sooo many nails to put it on. (50 to be exact)and most of the nails that it came with broke in half when I tried to hammer them in. Other than that, it's great!
