I've purchased a lot of "assemble yourself" furniture (usually for kids) from a variety of sources and this file cabinet is one of the best I've seen. We bought it as a temporary piece for a home office and so far it looks like a tremendous value. It uses the same basic assembly hardware as most of these things, but the overall quality was higher than average. The laminates on the wood pieces were very high quality, with no visible flaws. Based on the weight the wood for the cabinet seems to be a higher quality composite, possibly MDF (judging by the weight). The drawer slides are very good quality and the other hardware is fine and pretty attractive. All of the pieces and assembly hardware were very well labeled and there were no missing parts. One part was slightly damaged, but a quick call to the company had a replacement on the way the next day. The assembly instructions are very clear and easy to understand. It does take some time however - I've done a bunch of these and this one probably took me a couple hours. I did not use my power tools, which would have sped the process a bit.

Nice looking, but assembly is confusing

Very nice looking once it's assembled. Assembly was confusing. Product is not solid wood, wood fiberboard. OK for what I needed. Much nicer than metal.

Overall -Good. It is not solid wood it is pressboard/laminate construction. Small gap at top of drawer. No lock. As long as you know this before you buy, you should be happy with it.

I would recommend this as it looks great when put together. However, the directions (mostly pictures) where difficult to follow. More written directions would have been helpful.

The materials are junk. Its a flimsy design of flimsy materials. The screws come out b/c the fiberwood is just sawdust and the bottom panels fall out because they are just cardboard. Awful product.
