I bought this desk with the purpose of using it as a full time teacher in the future. The desk is beautiful and has ample surface area (which is especially nice if you have to have your computer, notebook, textbook, and several reference books out all at once). Though a little time consuming, I found it very easy and enjoyable to assemble. The directions were clearly labeled and I put most of it together while watching tv, so it wasn't hugely complicated. I suggest arranging all the pieces in alphabetical order and DO NOT remove the screws etc. from their packages until you go to use them. There were a couple of things that were unexpected: 1. the handles of the desk are more of a burnished grey, not the gold that I expected (but I like this better); 2. [...] 3. the pencil drawer sticks (though all of the other drawers slide beautifully!). When working on the pencil drawer, I called the helpline and they were very courteous and helpful. I soon found the underlying problem: the screws in the treads often stick out too far and disturb the wheels, causing the drawer to catch. I removed one of the screws and tightened the others and (with a little finesse) the drawer works just fine (though the bottom of it does seem a little flimsy). As to other complaints that you cannot clean the fingerprints off the desk, I have not had that problem. A little bit of windex and a paper towel seem to do the trick. All in all I really like this desk - this is exactly what I wanted and, all things considered, is very little hassle for a very good price.

Front laminate around edge not completely sealed to the desk. I have to find a way to fix this myself as my arm keeps catching and pulling it more. A complete bear to put together and I have built many Bush furniture pieces in my lifetime. This was the worst. If you don't have 10 hours to spend on assembly do not buy this product. Drawer assembly needs to be modified to be much simplier. Hardly any written instructions, just pictures. Company is too cheap to put in multiple language instructions along with illustrations so they just did the illustrations with minimal to no tips, etc.

    If you're ONLY buying the desk, you'll be fine - if you don't mind spending 3-4 hours assembling it. If you buy the matching hutch, however, you're in for a nasty surprise when you discover the hutch is about an inch wider than the desk, which then requires that you get creative with your carpentry skills in order to make it work. (Go to the matching hutch to see my review and solution) Directions for assembling the desk are pretty easy to follow, although I did find that parts "N" and "V" were cross-labeled. Also - the desk is so heavy that by the time you're halfway through the assembly process it's nearly impossible to move. If you plan on putting it flat against a wall (as I did), you will find it handy to install the front panels ("F") a little before the directions call for them, so that you can put it where you intend it to go AND THEN complete the assembly process.

      After 2.5 years of owning this, I felt compelled to write a review. After only a month, the center drawer fell apart. As of today, most of the fake wood laminate has peeled or chipped off, the cardboard drawer bottoms have fallen out and the hardware for the drawer handles have fallen off. I am very dissapointed the craftmanship of this peice, and would gladly have paid more for a real hardwood desk.

          It is a deep file drawer. Probably not tall enough to put your CPU box. There's plenty of space under the pencil drawer. Just depends on how far you want to push in your chair.
