I bought this desk with the purpose of using it as a full time teacher in the future. The desk is beautiful and has ample surface area (which is especially nice if you have to have your computer, notebook, textbook, and several reference books out all at once). Though a little time consuming, I found it very easy and enjoyable to assemble. The directions were clearly labeled and I put most of it together while watching tv, so it wasn't hugely complicated. I suggest arranging all the pieces in alphabetical order and DO NOT remove the screws etc. from their packages until you go to use them. There were a couple of things that were unexpected: 1. the handles of the desk are more of a burnished grey, not the gold that I expected (but I like this better); 2. [...] 3. the pencil drawer sticks (though all of the other drawers slide beautifully!). When working on the pencil drawer, I called the helpline and they were very courteous and helpful. I soon found the underlying problem: the screws in the treads often stick out too far and disturb the wheels, causing the drawer to catch. I removed one of the screws and tightened the others and (with a little finesse) the drawer works just fine (though the bottom of it does seem a little flimsy). As to other complaints that you cannot clean the fingerprints off the desk, I have not had that problem. A little bit of windex and a paper towel seem to do the trick. All in all I really like this desk - this is exactly what I wanted and, all things considered, is very little hassle for a very good price.
