as a college student, i have to budget my expenses and i could not believe the quality of this bookcase, i got the desk and hutch, 2 book cases and everyone who walks into my apartment mentions how beautiful it looks, i know the furniture pieces have done the trick. just because we're college does not mean we could not have a nice apartment. I very glad that when i own my first place, ill be able to take these pieces along and not have to toss them out because of the "dorm room" feel. I strongly recommend this set or one piece, its great for the fraction of the price. The quality is that of triple the price.

These bookshelves took us 4 hours to assemble the first one, and then a little over 2 and a half for the second one, since we had experience by then.
The material it is made of is not solid wood on a lot of the pieces, it is contact paper stuck to particle board. As soon as we assembled it, some of the wood colored contact paper was peeling off, when we took off the stickers telling us what part it was.
The backing of it is made of cardboard. Once assembled, the creases where they folded it to get into the box showed behind the books I displayed on the shelves.
Other than that, it looks very nice and serves it purpose. I still like them, as I didn't want to buy real wood bookshelves that cost 600 dollars.

They are very nice looking, and are a definite asset to my home office. We also got the matching file cabinet, which we like very much.

The quality was very poor. Several years we purchased a Durham bookcase and love it. The construction was sturdy and the bookcase had nice lines. Staples should return to the Durham company.

We bought two shelves plus a desk and are very pleased with the look of the furniture and the efficient storage space. We will be buying an additional shelf. I agree that the furniture doesn't look like it required assembly it is definately a great buy.
