I bought the 71” desk and its matching hutch, so this review is based on both products.

Okay, so one of the main complaints about this desk is the setup. I put it together with my dad who is very handy and extremely good at building things. I pretty much just gathered the pieces we needed. Going at this leisurely pace, it took us about six hours to set it up, but I’m sure it can be done faster. This desk is huge, so it either needs to be set up in the room you want it in, or set up piece by piece elsewhere and carried to the room you want in separate pieces. The hardware (screws, nails, etc.) is all very exact. If it says you need four screws, there are only four screws, so there’s no room for losing pieces.

The desk itself is very good quality and completely sturdy. The desktops can hold 200 pounds each. The finish is nice, and I was very satisfied that many pieces were finished on both sides. The edges are also sanded down slightly, so running into the corner of the desk doesn’t hurt quite so badly! The finish doesn’t scratch off easily but it shows a lot of fingerprints that you need furniture polish like Pledge to get off.

As with any piece of furniture, the cabinet doors aren’t 100% level, but I suppose with enough tweaking that can be fixed. The drawers will most likely need to be adjusted to shut. I had to unscrew and rescrew the sides about a couple millimeters down so that they would close, but they work fine now. The keyboard drawer seems very small to me (27.5 inches wide). My standard size keyboard and mouse pad have to touch to fit. If you have a big keyboard, you might want to make sure it fits. I’m also not too fond of the backing to the matching hutch. It was stored in the box folded in half, so I still have to look at that nasty crease down the middle.

As far as fitting everything in this desk goes, it is gigantic. With the cabinet and drawers on the desk and the added hutch space, you can pretty much clear off the whole desktop and still fit everything you own inside. It’s great for organizing. However, the hutch isn’t very wide, so paper trays and such may jut off of the shelves.

Overall this desk is very nice to look at, and for the money, it’s a good deal. I listed all the flaws in this review, but I’d still definitely recommend it. It’s a great desk.

It's been just about a year since I did battle with my hutch/desk (the hutch assembly was a nightmare) and although I was initially pleased (once together, the ensemble presents itself as a professional and polished work space), I've come to loathe the entire set-up. I went through four chairs - I was convinced my poor choice of chairs was the reason why I routinely fidgeted while trying to work (or play) at my desk, always not quite comfortable. Only recently did I realize the entire desk is simply too low (I'm only 5'6" tall) - the keyboard tray hits me on my thighs as I've yet to find a chair that will lower itself low enough to accommodate the low keyboard tray.

I tried to use the desktop for my keyboard and mouse, but that arrangement left just inches between me and the monitor. Although my keyboard (regular-sized) fits on the tray, there is only a about 5 inches of room for the mouse, thus I'm constantly pushing the keyboard tray up and over the ridge on the left so as to accommodate the mouse movements.

Where the optical mouse lay, the finish has come off to the point the finish is bumpy and is starting to affect the fluidity of the mouse - I've resorted to an old mouse pad (yuck).

I made the mistake of placing the CPU cabinet to my left and the drawers to my right - in a nutshell, unless I buy extension cables for all of my peripherals, the printer and the scanner and the digital pad all have to share space on a tiny portion of the desk - I'm constantly swapping one machine for another (although I have relented and purchased some longer USB cables and such - it still makes me cranky).

The ugly plastic feet have not cracked or buckled as I had initially feared - yet they remain ugly plastic feet.

Storage space - basically it's the two drawers and that's it - the cabinets in the hutch are small and do hold items, but mine remain in some sort of halfway open position most of the time as I'm constantly reaching for this or that - boy, I miss the old "pencil drawer"!

This set-up/set may work well for some people, but for one who uses the computer and/or peripherals on a daily basis and/or has to sit and type for extended periods, well, it's just not efficient, comfortable or durable.

I had this desk for about 2 weeks and the best decision I made was going with the vender Staples has that assembles items at your home. Yes it adds to the cost of the desk but they have it buit in about 2.5/3 hours and everything is perfect and made sure I looked over it before they left. I purchased this in the maple color and I love it becuase most of my place is in dark wood or cherry wood. This just lightens up the home office area and is perfect for my new 24 inch Sony touch screen computer I also purchases the same day from staples. I just love my home office and look at staples much differantly becuase of the fantastic deal I recieved on all my new equiptment I just purchases from there including a new printer a few days after : ) Very happy customer!

OMG! What fool put the cheap ugly plastic feet on this desk. It ruined my whole perception of the desk. I owned same desk (the 60" though) prior to this and it had wood feet. This is JUNK solely because of the feet! I can't believe someone would put their band name on this. I say we make them give a REAL wood feet. OMG!!!

I use this desk for my home business as well as some college coursework. My husband and father-in-law put it together one day while I was at work. They're pretty handy and didn't report any problems not did they say it took them an uncommonly long time to assemble it.
This desk is rather heavy, especially with the hutch attached. I highly recommend assembling it in the room where you plan to keep it, and as close to its final location as possible.
I was able to get the desk and hutch during one of the "free hutch with desk" promotions, and I am so glad I did. The hutch is a nice finishing touch.

I love this desk, but I also looked at a number of desks and knew exactly what I was getting.
This is a large, complicated desk. It was made more so by the matching hutch, which I also purchased. This is a very good quality press-board desk with a standard wood grain covering. For the price, this desk is an excellent buy, but if you want a hardwood stained desk that will resist scratches and fit together perfectly, look to spend at least four times this price.
The desk is very large. I am 6'2" and I had a few problems with the large pieces in the last stages. It took me just under five hours to fully assemble the desk and hutch and move the finished product into place. I would recommend two people and the right tools to get it done. I would also say that even with all the right tools and experience assembling items like this, it took me five hours, so if you have not assembled something like this, give yourself lots of time. You will also need lots of space to work with. I would also recommend that you read all the instructions carefully before beginning. There are things that seem silly early on in the instructions that turn out to be important later. It is made of press-board, so the "hit it with a big hammer" school of engineering will not work to assemble this and will almost certainly damage it. The covering of the desk (the coating that looks like wood grain) is thin. If you scratch it with something metal or lay it on the wrong kind of flooring, it will permanently scar it. I used a blanket to keep it from touching the floor during assembly and it is scratch free.
After setting the desk up I found that there were some small design issues, but they are partly from my odd work arrangements, most notably my extremely large computer and the need to set up multiple LCD's. I work from home three days per week and my home office is my primary workspace, so this desk is a big part of my work life. It is sturdy and all the drawers and cabinet doors work well. The hutch fit perfectly in place and the brackets to hold it fit well.
The surface will scratch easily. I covered the main workspace with two plastic desk covers (thick pieces of clear plastic that cover part of the desk, you can get them at any office store) and that solved the scratch problem on the main workspace.
The desk has plenty of space and is a sturdy platform for working.
This is a great desk if you know what you are getting. This is an excellent quality press-board desk with a wood veneer covering. For the money it was a fantastic buy and I love it as a workspace. Basically I love this desk. Just be sure to do your research and know what you are purchasing.

People place files on my desk everyday. I've had this desk for a little over 1 year and there are little "knicks" all over from the back part of a staple to a paper clip. The slighest movement on the desk of either of these two creates a knick. The edging on the desk is chipping and where the two corners meet is sagging.

Overall I would not recommend this desk. Spend the money on a "real" wood desk.

I see in another message that the "desk" is 23.5" deep and the "return" is 19.5" deep. In the picture and in the diagrams, which is which? And can the desk be assembled the other way around. That is, if the "return" is on the left and the "desk" on the right, can it be assembled to put the "desk" on the left and the "return" on the right?
