We have had a Canon Pixma 5000 for a few years now and have put many reams of paper through it. We print both documents and photos. I decided from the very beginning that I'd use nothing but actual Canon ink after reading reviews. The only time I've had any trouble at all was when we used some off-brand multi-use paper that had tiny fibers that clogged up the print head. I replaced the head after several unsuccessful attempts to clean it. We only use inkjet paper. This printer is like the Energizer bunny.

  It will work if you are going to use it in one of the Canon printers for which it is listed. To be frank, I have no idea why that disclaimer is included; there must be a reason for it; but I don't know of any Canon printers using these cartridges that require print-head replacement merely because the ink has run out. Check your manual to be absolutely sure, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  It works fine until the (very expensive) head wears out or fails. The head is easily replaced, but then (and only then) you have to realign the printing.
  
  Also remove and clean the head with alchohol occasionally if the prints get streaky (and realign).
