I needed a multi-function unit to scan, copy, print and fax so I was willing to pay a-little more for ink. It only takes a few documents and/or photos to empty the black ink cartridge and the cartridges are very expensive. My first ink purchase will be what I paid for the unit on sale. I still haven't been able to send a fax. I am extremely disappointed. The only purpose it serves is scanning multiple documents to my PC for archiving purposes.

The Canon PG-210/CL-211 Black/Color Ink Cartridge Photo Value Pack by Canon, is a very good deal. The price was the same for the "photo value pack" as it was for just the black/color ink pack. If they have the 'photo value pack," grab it. It comes with a good amount of 4"x6" photo paper, as well as 4-4" magnet strips. This is a nice deal if it is available at the store.

I do not print very frequently, so I will not comment on the cartridge life.

As for the print quality, in my opinion, photo quality prints well. The pictures come out clean and crisp. Although, if you are looking at them very close up, you can tell it is ink. I think that is natural for this level of printing.

I will say pictures of all sorts tend to stay moist for a minute. I made the mistake of printing multiple pages of a particular image, and encountered smearing. Be patient and just print each page separately.

As for printing letters, coupons, ext. this is perfect. You can print multiple pages without worry of image transfer to the next page. This is ideal for this type of work
