I went from laserjet(brother) back to my canon inkjet,Upgraded to mx860, i print frequently and my inkjet is more economical, canon prints great photos ive had only good experiences w/ canon, auto duplexing is somewhat slow however i try to save paper. Did lots of research before buying this printer and the ink costs are low to comparable inkjets all in one. great price for the features included. Enjoy!

I use this printer in our home office application. I replaced my HP 6310 with this unit based on Consumer Reports and comments left here and on other sites. This printer has definitely met my expectations. The kids are thrilled because now their laptop (Vista) can print via the wireless connection instead of having to email reports etc. to the main computer that was attached to the printer. I was excited to learn that you can also scan a document and save it as a .pdf file! Great for sending price lists and brochures that contain pics. All in all, we've had this printer for a couple of months now and I am thrilled with its performance!

This printer is great! The features and conveniences it has for the price are just wonderful and I'm very happy with the purchase. I do a fair amount of graphic design work and use the MX860 for demo material, proofs and even some production prints on various types of paper.

What makes me happy about this printer:
- network ready, you can put it wherever you want and have multiple computers use it.
- borderless printing
- an underneath paper cassette for regular paper and a rear tray for special papers
- automatic 2 sided printing
- great quality

The only things that I can say negative:
- it's a little slower on high quality color prints, but no inkjet is "fast" with that
- the network driver setup was a little tricky, apparently in Vista you need to run the install, it will give an error about a port, reboot and run install again. Kind of annoying until you figure that out...

I spent a lot of time comparing this model to the Epson Workforce and Epson Artisan models. I eventually chose the Canon for a few reasons.

First of all the construction of the Canon printer is far and away better than the Epson models. It is of a solid build and construction where the Epson felt flimsy and poorly constructed.

Second, the footprint with trays etc. is actually smaller than the Epson models, though the silver color I think give it the appearance of being larger.

Third, the Epson models will not scan wirelessly from the printer to the computer. With the Epson models you must place the document on the platen, go to your computer and scan the document, and then go retrieve it. With the Canon model you can place the document on the platen, scan it, take the document with you and find it has been scanned and is ready for viewing on your computer screen. FAR more logical if your wireless printer is away from your computer.

Lastly, the Epson models are *very* prone to paper jams (Google it), while the Canon model is not. Likely plays into my previous comment about better construction.

Despite the great rating in Consumer Reports, this printer isn't a good deal out-of-the-box. As a user with intermediate expertise in computer/printer use I found the unit awkward to get up and running. Packaging was difficult to unbundle, serial number was almost impossible to find, lifting the cover & platen to install cartridges then closing requires a tricky maneuver you find in the setup guide. The print users' set up guide is terrible -nearly useless. I hoped for something better online and that guide was also written in cyberspeak not even spoken by geeks. After 3 hours of trying to set up either cable or wireless connection, it took almost two more hours with the Canon Help Desk: first at Level 1 and then at Level 2. The Level 1 support tech wrongly told me to uninstall my virus protection and firewall protection; Level 2 got me back on track. Overall a bad installation experience. So far the quality of the printouts is good, and my network can feed to the printer from all 3 computers. But this was painful and never would have happened with an HP setup.
