I often think people rate products too harshly. There is a great deal to be said for getting what you pay for. I could have paid more and gotten pre-loaded 4X6 photo paper, an LED read out for preview and lots of other things. But what I needed and what I got was a reliable printer that provides beautiful photo prints and fast, crisp, clear copies of everyday image use.

I use this printer for printing edible images on frosting sheets. Unlike newer models or all-in-ones, this printer has enough clearance to allow the thick paper to spool without jamming and the resolution to deliver excelent image quality.

Bought this to replace our canon 1p4000 workhorse when it quit after 4 years and 2 print head replacements. Couldn't find another ip4000. Even the off brand replacement ink for this printer is expensive because of the chip. The ink it came it ran out in the first 2 weeks. We were using it heavily but never experienced such rapid ink usage before. The main reason we bought this is we need 2 paper feeds as we use different paper types regularly. That works fine but there is no button for manual switching, you have to make sure you are using the correct tray in the software each time you print. Setup was incredibly simple and it supports duplex printing. Once in a while the bottom tray gives a paper out message while it still has paper. Overall not a bad printer for the price.

  You will not be able to print directly off of an SD card without a PC, but if you have a camera or a cell phone equipped with PictBridge technology and a USB cable, you'll be able to not only print directly from them, but automatically edit the photos from them.

  The Canon photo printer connects cameras by PictBridge, or High-Speed USB 2.0 cable, this printer is not Network or Wireless Ready. To Print from a different peripheral you would have to use the USB connecting cable.
