The Canon WS-1400H 14-digit display calculator uses solar energy as its primary source of power. When used in a location where there is sufficient light, the unit can work for an extended period without failure. When the light is insufficient to provide enough energy for the calculator to work, then a backup battery takes over, providing necessary power until the device can work on solar energy alone once again.
