I bought this copier/printer/scanner to replace a 9-year-old Canon D660 copier/printer. I've only had the D550 a week, but I've been very pleased so far. I've tested all three functions, and I especially like the double-sided scanning from the automatic document feeder and the fast printing. I did a lot of research before I bought this machine, and had narrowed my choices down to it and the Brother 7065dn, which is much more economical when you look at the cartridge prices. I called Staples' 800 number and spoke to a sales rep who acknowledged the cheaper ink for the Brother machine but said Canon's combined drum-and-cartridge system means more consistent quality over time. What also helped was looking at the manuals for the two machines online: The Canon seems a lot less finicky about the paper it accepts. You can load mailing labels and envelopes in the regular tray, while the Brother discourages that. I have discovered with the Canon (and this may be true about the Brother, too) is that the toner save mode is pretty acceptable for regular printing. Maybe not for a resume or business proposal, but certainly for a newsletter. I also like the on/off switch - believe it or not, my old copier/printer didn't have one. The only way to cut the power was to unplug it, although it - and this one - go into power-save mode if you leave them for a certain amount of time. The one thing I wish Canon had done was include a cable, but for the price, especially after the $100 rebate, I guess I can't complain too much.

Purchased for minimum church work, Saturdays and Sundays for 1 hour. Used only 3 Sundays before it needed maintenance. It gets hot enough to roll the paper and there are way to many steps...Read complete review

So far we love it for our small business. Prints & collates-we never had that before. We had a Canon for 7 years and decided on another. The only thing is you have to change the # of copies by going to the menu-just a little time consuming until you get used to it. It does not print in color and neither do we.

This is a great little machine for the money. it has a suprising number of features for a compact machine. Much better designed than its predecessor, it runs quieter and faster with fewer paper jams.
