Poor performance despite features, rvws

The Canon Image Class MF4450 is such a disappointment that I will probably have to ditch it and get another machine. It replaced an HP LaserJet 1000, which ran fine but didn't have drivers compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. The purchase was based on a PCMag.com review, as well as others. Unfortunately, the MF4450 has the following defects: (1) it does not pull paper through very well, meaning that standard paper too often comes through crooked, and photo paper jams without exception; (2) the paper guides are 1/8 inch too wide for printing personal checks from the custom template that I set up; (3) too many contortions are required to set up custom page sizes, which must be done starting from the "Devices and Printers" menu of the computer; (4) if a sheet of paper doesn't match the dimensions that the printer expects, it beeps and requires more attention. It is true that the paper dimensions and weights, I have belatedly found, are published in the specifications on Canon's website, but why does a machine with so many beeps and display choices (bells and whistles) function so poorly compared to a simpler one manufactured 8 years earlier? And of course it's now a week past the Staples return deadline. There's probably more trouble I haven't discovered yet. I'll be looking for a better machine and a better distributor.

Am very pleased with the overall operation of the machine but the toner does not last long at all. Not just the one that came with it, but a new one does not last either.

If you buy this average printer.. make sure you buy 12 $90 inks with it. Had it a month and I do not print much (maybe 20 pages per day). It has already run out of ink. It won't scan if your ink is low. Not worth the money... I dont see a difference between this printer and $80-120.00 printers except one thing; those printer cartridges are cheaper.

This printer offers duplex printing. Does it also offer duplex scanning, i.e., can it scan two-sided documents without manual intervention? I did not see any specs on the scan functions.
