This Canon printer is better than other brand, the main reason is single cartridge system. There is no need for the drum unit.

First off, I really like the printer. It gives you a good alternative for a fax, copier, scanner and printer all in one. The only thing I can't figure out is how they can charge $89 for a toner cartridge. The first two cartridges I used are rated at 2100 copies at 5% usage. I use it mostly for receiving faxes and got 661 pages on the first cartridge and 614 on the second. That's not even close to 2100. If you use an off brand or "compatible" cartridge that costs less, they sometimes don't work at all and then you are stuck with returning them and paying more shipping charges than the toner cost. Good printer horrible toner cost.

This all in one machine is perfect for my small office in a small company. I use the copier and printer functions all day long and the results are clear, clean and bright prints or copies. The machine is fairly quiet too, even when not in quiet mode. This purchase will definitely help me to work more efficiently, and be able to stay in my office at my desk instead of running to another office in our building to print or copy images. I do not have the fax function running as yet, because I do not have a fax line in my office at this time, but I am sure it will function perfectly. Perhaps I did not read the review when purchasing the machine, but I thought this model would duplex, but it does not. It will however print up to 4 pages on one page, so that is a good paper saving feature. I am very happy with this purchase.

I needed a light-duty office printer (2-20 pages a day), I was replacing a 12 year old very expensive, very heavy duty Xerox laser that served its useful life. My experience with Canon inkjets is solid, so that was one plus in this unit's favor. I considered the very highly rated Brother mono laser as well -- but the Brother software is MacOS hostile. Canon has very solid MacOS drivers and software. The price was competitive. I wanted the auto-feeder for scanning - and on my home inkjet, the scanning software permits a "fake duplexing" function -- it scans all the pages on one side, then you manually flip the pages, and then it scans all the reverse sides... then in software if reorders the pages. I SO WISH the mono laser software had the same functionality the color inkjet had. Canon support said I was not the first to mention this. AH -- Canon support. They are great. But rarely needed. I am thrilled about this printer and I would buy it again.

Nice printer, maybe because it came with a starter cartridge I think it uses too much ink but time will tell. It is a little flimsy but for the price it is ok
